Gym with pool? — Brooklynian

Gym with pool?

Is there a good gym in the Slope with a pool? The Y? Eastern Athletic?

Any recommendations?

  • The Y has a pool and better rates than just about any other gym in the area. However, they are planning to put in a new "aquatics center," and I don't know if the existing pool will be shut down during the construction.
  • Plus the pool at the Y is always crowded. I stopped using it because it got to be pointless to try to swim laps when there's four people in each lane.

Used to go to Eastern Athletic, but only in the summer when the rates were slightly less astronomical. Then at one point even the summer rates got too high for me. Their pool is (or at least was) nice & less crowded than the Y, although there was a 20 minute time limit for lap swimming.
  • Does anyone know if the Y pool gets very crowded early in the morning on weekdays? I'm talking around 6-6:30.
  • Eastern Athletic's website is horrible... I tried to find the club features for the Grand Army Plaza location and couldn't anywhere. What are the rates, by the way? I'm at Equinox now, so I'm pretty used to astronomical rates.
  • I swim a the Y at 6AM every other weekday and if I get there promptly at
6AM I won't have problem. It is usually four to a lane at that time.
If I arrive a little after 6AM then I might have to wait for someone to get out of the pool.
  • FYI. Eastern Athletic doesn't heat the pool and can be like swimming in Alaskan waters at times. Don't know if that matters to you though.
