  • If you haven't been there yet, it's worth a try. It's the only place in the neighborhood that feels like a real local. And I think it's worthy. the art in the garden is a nice bonus to an affordable and well-prepared meal. I've seen a lot of griping on these boards in the past about the 17 percent service charge. Frankly, 20 is the going rate, so I always leave extra. I know that if you balk at the charge they will graciously forgo it. But really, your service has to be pretty bad to not merit 17 percent. In my experience, the service there has always been friendly, accommodating and unusually gracious toward families. I've witnessed children climbing around on the steps as their parents ate, blissfully unaware that restaurant employees were speeding by them with hot pots of coffee and plates of food in hand. Just dealing with stepping over unattended little ones merits 17 in my book. But aside from that, I've been able to get food there with substitutions galore and strange requests such as, "I'd like those fries so underdone they're hardly even cooked."
Besides, doesn't anyone on this board appreciate a place that caters to children while retaining its pub-feel?
One more thing...it can get loud there in the front room on nights when there's a particularly intriguing game on. But isn't it nice to have some place to go to boo at Boston or cheer the Mets or even watch a college football game?
