Dog Run in Bed Stuy

Does anyone know of a good dog run in or near Bed Stuy? Tks. L

  • I don't know of any dog runs per se, but there's a field in Prospect park, I think it's called Nethermead, where about 20 dog owners let their dogs offleash every afternoon starting around 5pm without and harassment for the police or park workers. It's a nice mix of big and small dogs.

Apparently people stop doing it in the winter when it starts getting dark by 5. But for 8 or 9 months of the year it's a great place to let your dog get his or her energy out.
  • Subject: dog run

I live in Bed-Sty and I take my dog to play in Tompkins park. Esp. in the mornings you'll find dogs at play off Marcy near Clifton. It's not a dog run, so technically, the dogs should only be off leash between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. But I've found that the restriction is not being enforced at this point in time and so a nice little group of neighbors meet there. The last week or so I've noticed a fencing going up in the "dog area" which may mean a real dog run is coming. I've been warned not to go at night, but I have never had anything happen.

That would be great if it is the case!
  • Yes, I went there this morning and it is true that a real dog run is coming.

JMHO, though, it's better to just go to any city park and run all around than it is to get a bunch of dogs together in a pen. You can go to any city park before or after 9 and run your dog legally.
  • Just to clarify: is that "dog area" inside Thompkins Park?

    Thanks.
  • Yes. And nice people hang out there.
  • hey-- I know this is an old thread, but I want to make sure people know: if there us a dog run in a park, you can NOT let your dog off-leash elsewhere in the park. ever. not before 9 a.m., not after 9 p.m. not ever. that's the trade-off for having a dog run.
  • But nothing happens if you let you dog run wild at any time in any place in all of Prospect Park.
