Substitute Teaching Opportunities? — Brooklynian

Substitute Teaching Opportunities?

I'm posting here instead of in classifieds because I'm not looking for a direct hire.

I have a close friend who is a licensed substitute teacher who is pursuing his master's and is seeking substitute teaching opportunities and was wondering if anyone here is in the education field and has recommendations for schools he should apply at, or where teachers are needed.

He coaches at an afterschool progam in park slope, so a school in the neighborhood would naturally be the most desired. However, i am aware that his options may be limited and he's willing to teach anywhere nearby as well. (He's looking into contacts at other neighborhoods)

Any leads, contact people or even just advice on the application process with schools would be helpful. Feel free to PM me. Thank you all.

  • Hi

    A few questions,

What ages do they teach ? Subjects ? Which curriculum ? Experience ?

What else can they offer ? (like after school soccer/music/chess?)
  • the best way is to apply to the principal of the school directly, no matter what the DOE tells you. there are tons of schools around the area, and it seems like they always need subs. oh, and private might be easier than public.
