Subject: does anyone cap their cat's claws?

I'm thinking about buying this kit but am worried about the whole thing. I can't clip my 17 lb cat's nails (he shreds me in the process, despite me sitting on him wrapped in a towel) and he likes to knead. it's driving me nuts.

Have you tried duct tape? Either wrapping it around his paws or securing him to the floor so he can't scratch anything?

I ought to do that to Tuly. She won't use the scratching post. She rather likes to claw my suitcases instead. And if I duct tape her to the wall, it's ART!! :twisted:

Is it me or do softclaws look like Lee Press-On Nails for cats? And like Lee Press-On Nails, they don't stay on! :evil:

there are these brooklyn made cat scratching posts at hope vet that are AWESOME. when no other scratching post worked and i got a new loveseat (that was quickly being torn apart!!!! :twisted: ) i got one of those from hope vet and it did the trick!

plus, you can save the base and just replace the scratching part as needed! oh, and it's tall enough that the kitties can stretch their backs which they appear to enjoy.

I was actually considering trying to affix some cardboard scratchy stuff to a concrete block. they could shred cardboard while filing their nails down. why has no one come up with this super smart invention yet?!

Actually, the best scratching post (why don't I have one?) is a plain ol' log. Cats like the feel of the wood and will scratch that over anything else. At my parent's house, my parents put their cats out on the (screened) porch where they have a large log pile and let them go to town.
