Okay Dog Lovers: Ellen Degeneres Saga
I would put this in the pet forum, but its more news because of the coverage:
I feel bad for those kids who lost their dog and Ellen who seems sincere with her pleas. Unfortunately, seems like they gave the dog to a new owner already...
But according to the lawyer/rep for the organization, Moms and Muts, they gave the family a chance to come down and fill out the paperwork when this whole thing hit the fan, but the family refused to do it and THEN Ellen did the "on air" thing. I watched the attorney interview last night to get the full story.
What do you owners think of these rules and conditions by the Muts and Moms organization? Should they have let it go for this one case? Was Ellen deliberately trying to get over as a celebrity? Was it completely innocent?

I think Ellen made an innocent mistake.
But I was under the impression that Moms and Mutts did not even bother to vet the hairdresser's family, automatically rejecting the family because the kids were under 14.
I signed a similar contract when I adopted my cat Tuly, so it is general practice with rescue organizations that if you can't keep an animal, it goes back to the organization. I suppose it's to make sure that the animal stays rescued and safe.
That said, I think the "no kids under 14" rule to be bogus. I can understand not letting a family with toddlers adopt, but most children over the age of five are capable of being taught to be gentle with animals. I certainly think a family with small children are better off with a smaller dog than a large one as a large dog can present a safety threat to the children. -
Moms and Mutts = retarded. they just lost the support of a massive celeb who was CLEARLY trying to do the right thing by that poor pup who was, frankly, misadvertised. my mom is a board member of snap in houston and they share a similar contract to moms & mutts. but. they also foster pets in their own homes and make it clear which pets can get along with each other, need to be alone, etc. they also handle all the vaccination and spay/neutering issues.
those M&M folks should be kicking themselves.
