6th St 3rd Ave — Brooklynian

6th St 3rd Ave

I'm looking for a new place to live & stumbled across something @ 6th St & 3rd Ave in Park Slope. I'm not familiar with this exact locale. Anyone know if this is a safe enough area? i.e. Safe enough for a girl to walk alone form the train at night without pepper spray?

Thanks,
Les

That's technically in Gowanus, not PS.

Ah, okay. The ad says Park Slope, but no surprise someone would misrepresent on CraigsList. So Gowanas = not too safe of an area? Thanks.
  • im pretty sure I saw the same place on craigslist today.

looks pretty awesome and I would take it.

It does sound awesome. Safety is my main concern, though. Would you trust a young girlfriend to walk alone at night from the train in that area? Thanks!
  • its kinda empty at night so you might have deal with some homeless people.
Honestly my gf would be alittle skeptical to move there but its not that far from the subway. Go and check it out and see if you can even rent it and then walk around at night.
  • area is dead at night. i wouldnt live there at night.

I was looking at a place on 14th and 4th Ave which I guess is Park Slope? Is that area safe?
  • I've lived at 20th and 4th for years and never had a problem. Well, one burglary but that was done by a "repairman" in the building.
  • I would NEVER let my girlfriend walk around that area of night... you're a target.
  • i think that area feels worse than it actually is.

it is a little dead at night, but not unsafe.

it's also cheaper than most areas, thus makes up for a cab-ride home if it's after midnight.

living in a city is all about compromises.

I live on 4th ave and 14th. I've walked to and from Buttermilk bar (16th and 5th), and down to my friends' place on 4th and 11th late late at night by myself, and haven't felt any more unsafe than on 5th ave. 4th Ave is busy enough right there--lots of traffic, and the bodegas stay open pretty late.
  • id watch out for the rats.

I saw a huge one around 15th and 4th the other day.
