moving to pk slope -- need school advice

moving in
edited November -1 in Park Slope
We are moving to Park Slope with a child who will be in tenth grade next year. I don't know where to begin finding the right school for her. I'm looking for advice on good public or private schools and how hard it will be to get into one.

  • Are you moving from NYC? If so, the same public high school stuff applies. High schoolers (as you probably know) do not have to attend their local school, and this applies particularly in Pk Slope, where the local high school is crapola.

If you're coming from out of NYC, you'd better move it and get the Directory of NY Public High Schools from the Dept of Ed website. A lot of the deadlines for applications have already passed (the Specialised High Schools, plus La Guardia, Murrow, and Bard amongst others), and some schools require portfolios and interviews. I think the deadline for the selection of twelve 'regular' schools is Nov 27.

If it's private school you're looking at, that comes down to a simple search and tours - but I'm sure applications close soon.

    Good luck.
