77th Community Council Precinct Meeting — Brooklynian

77th Community Council Precinct Meeting

I know the meeting was held tonight, but I couldn't attend. Anyone make it? Any news to report?

  • it was the 10 year anniversary of the current precinct council board, so there was a lot of remembering and such
    (and a cake)

cosgrove was there to answer questions
    and guess what
    crime is up, particularly burglaries
once again getting guns off the street was a major topic
    as was graffiti busting
there are reward programs in place for tips leading to convictions for both: $500 for writing, $1000 for guns
sorry, i don't have the phone numbers but anyone interested could call the precinct

we don't have CPOP (beat officers program) in place anymore due to lack of manpower

cosgrove also announced the shooting of the young man in bed stuy, he had just returned from that scene

    basically, if there are going to be any changes it's going to require that more people, especially the newer residents get together and do something;
take ownership of the problems and the solutions
it can be as simple as cleaning up the garbage
    or
as committed as getting involved with youth
    etc, etc
    but unless we unite,
the only thing that is going to change this community is the big gentrification wave
    and then...
    it will already be gone

(sorry for the tone, it's been a rough day)
  • Exactly. No need to pardon your tone. You're dead on.
If we don't come together, the fate of the neighborhood will be decided by developers and other monied interests. If we do, we stand a chance of preserving something, like our integrity as a community.
    Can I get a witness?

I've been trying to get involved in community programs and would really like to participate in something to better the community. The Crow Hill Community Association has been slightly difficult for me to get in touch with. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I really like the area and have noticed what seems like a great community around me. I would like to become part of it and would like to volunteer my time and energy. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you.
  • hmmmmmmmmmmmm

what is so difficult about connecting with a group that meets the 3rd tuesday of every month?

if you want to get involved go to a meeting:
    a precinct council meeting
    a community board meeting
    a neighborhood association meeting
and i promise you, you will connect with people and find opportunities

but it is going to involve taking that first step.

as far as Crow Hill is concerned, i will be posting some updates by the end of the weekend.

Go easy on me. It's not hard to go to a meeting but when it's only once a month and you happen to be home for Thanksgiving during one of the meetings it's more difficult. 2 months seems like a lot of time to me but perhaps I'm too impatient.
Either way, I was looking for some contact info perhaps for some of the groups you listed. Please don't attack me for being naive but I've had trouble discovering what organizations actually exist near me.
This forum just seemed like a good resource to learn more and get more detailed information.
And play nice, I'm new to all of this and no one gave me an "intro to crown heights" brochure when I moved in. I'm still trying to get my bearings.

    that should get you started

apologies if that sounded like an attack, it wasn't
but i feel i have been responsive to your queries and to see CHCA labeled as "difficult to reach" on a public board felt unecessary to me.
