The bar thread to end all bar threads: Crown Heights!

Hi! So, I'm wondering about all the different drinking-out possibilities here in CH. I searched for different options on Google Maps and came out with these ones close to me:

+ Secrets (Nostrand between Park and Prospect)
+ Rulod Tavern (Nostrand between Bergen and St. Marks)
+ Starlite Lounge (Nostrand between Bergen and Dean)
+ Q Tavern (Nostrand between St. Johns and Lincoln)
+ Tavern on Nostrand (Nostrand and Union)
+ Liga Sports Inn (Franklin and St. Marks)
+ After Six Bar and Lounge (Franklin between St. Johns and Lincoln)

What do you guys think of these? Any recommendations? And non-recommendations? Any places to add that Google doesn't know about?

Thanks!

  • The only bar I've been to, and it's largely because I don't drink, is Q. I actually like Q a lot because it's got the atmosphere of your friendly neighborhood bar. The bartender is super sweet and people are friendly. They have karaoke on Sunday and Tuesday nights, but it doesn't really get going until 11 PM.

People have been really nice to me when I've gone there, so I recommend it.
  • I'm sure that the night doesn't really begin unless you are there, lilbangladesh. Juice really makes the party "hop"
  • No need to be snippy. I really like Q because it's a friendly place, but unfortunately, it doesn't really get hopping until I turn into a pumpkin.

Anyway, I'm a lot more fun sober. When I could drink, I would just sit there. I've been told I'm an awful buzzkill when drunk. Just as well that I never enjoyed the inebriated state to begin with,
  • haven't checked it out yet
but 95 South opened last night
it's 778 Frankllin, between St. Johns & Lincoln
they did a nice renovation & i believe they serve light food
  • is Starlite still open? I drove past it on a recent Friday night/early Saturday am around 3 a.m. and the gates were down. the one time I visited this spot, I was there til 4 a.m. and it was still hoppin' so I got concerned.

Secrets is AWESOME. of course, I think I was pretty drunk and ready to dance when I got there, but yeah, it's f'in awesome.

is Brooklyn Exposure still around? they had a nice bar and great jazz. the food looked amazing, too.

the technically CH bar I visit the most is Ripple b/c it's across from me. I'd be interested in checking out 95 South.

I think it's time for me to organize another CH bar crawl, starting at Ripple. who's in?

Me too -- but can we go to Secrets earlier this time?

sure. I'll put together a poll and such. I'm thinking, though, this is going to have to wait til january if we're really doing festivus.
  • I reckon I'd be down for a bar crawl. I live in CH and I've only been to Ripple.
  • I'd be willing to try a bar crawl. There are a couple of updates since the last one was planned. Secrets appears to have cut back its hours significantly. I think you can still hang out there on the weekends, but I was out last Wednesday night about 8pm and it was closed up tight. We'll need to recheck its schedule.

There is also a new spot on Nostrand between Atlantic and Pacific. I think its only been open for a week or so, on the left hand side of the street if you are facing south (the direction of traffic).

Finally, there is a spot on Nostrand and President right above the 2 & 5 station that I think is called VIP. There were a couple of posts about it several months ago. Its seems large, but everytime I go by its fairly empty. May be a good place to start or end the evening depending on how things go.
