Quincy between Patchen and Malcolm X — Brooklynian

Quincy between Patchen and Malcolm X

Any points of view on this block? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I only got to see it briefly on a Saturday morning, (seemed great--quiet, nice people, safe) but I didn't get to see it at night, and I won't be back in NY til January. Trying to decide on a great apt. in that block. . .I love BedStuy, and I know it's very block to block. . .any input on amenities (grocery stores? co-op options? parks?) would be really great, as well.

Thanks so much!

  • Honestly, this is a tricky question for an internet forum.

If you really want to know about the neighborhood and you can't physically be there, perhaps you should get three friends to visit at different times of day and night for you.
  • I live on Quincy Street between Patchen and Ralph. I purchased in this area approximately two years ago. As a female, I do not feel uncomfortable returning home at night. On Broadway and Quincy there is an Associated supermarket. The post office is located on Broadway and Gates. A police and fire station are located on the corners of Quincy and Ralph, as well as a Bank of America.

Unfortunately, there are not too many restaurants/cafes located within this area yet, but you would be a 5-10 minute walk away from all of the restaurants/cafes in Stuyvesant Heights. From the J train stop at Kosciusko, you are 2-3 stops away from many of the amenities in Bushwick.

I agree with the other reader that the best thing to do is to try to have friends visit at other times of the day. It is really the only way to determine if you are comfortable with the area. Good luck.
