Grab some paper cups and stash that bottle you bought when you started the party early at Red, White, and Bubbly’s free champagne tasting
(2–6pm; 211 Fifth Ave at Union St, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-636-9463).

Postmidnight, head over to Sheep Station (149 Fourth Ave at Douglass St, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-857-4337) to catch an Aussie-style NYE party with Coopers Ale, meat pies and lamb sandwiches.[/quote wrote:

Sounds great! Except poor Pitu with be bombarded by Manhattanites showing up at her favorite bar

Anyone else know fun things to do in the area this New Years?

The Peruvian-inspired psychedelic pop of Chicha Libre at Barbès (376 9th St at Sixth Ave, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-965-9177) makes a colorful way to begin 2008—and it’s just $10. The Park Slope venue has enough dark corners for some undercover hip-swaying and New Year’s kissing, but doesn’t serve food. Be sure to grab a bite down the street at Brooklyn Burger Bar (444 9th St at Seventh Ave, 718-832-5500).

There’s nothing like starting the New Year with a nice, traditional, electric queer rock & roll circus, and that’s exactly what you’ll get at Luna Lounge. Cirque du Sogay, which features Brooklyn emo band Triple Creme, sexy go-go dancers and circus performers, will have you oohing and aahing more than any fireworks could. The $15 admission includes a midnight champagne toast, and ten percent of it goes to Circus Amok, a theater troupe dedicated to free public art. 361 Metropolitan Ave at Havemeyer St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (lunalounge.com). 8pm.

  • There's tons of stuff going on for New Year's at the Free NYC site, check it out!
    Here's just one sample:
    The Rub New Years Eve

    FreeNYC Event Flyer

    Date: Monday, December 31st
    Time: 9:00pm
    Location: Southpaw (125 5th Ave, P'Slope)
    Cost: $40 Advance Tickets

The Rub at Southpaw is always a good time, so we assume that they will usher in 2008 with the same spirit. DJs Ayres, Cosmo Baker and Eleven keep you dancing all night long. They are joined tonight by DJ Sureshot who sets up shop in the basement. Tickets are $40 in advance, and if you're interested in going I suggest you get 'em soon as they are sure to sell out. Its a big price tag but includes food and champagne!
