World of Warcraft

I don't, but there was a recent article about the (intentional) addictiveness of games and they used WoW as an example. I think that one "expert" estimated that more than 60% of players were clinically addicted

just be careful! WoW actually caused a friend of mine's band to break up. Now it's still all he does when he's not working at Blockbuster. That's much more fun than making records for a living

I played a couple of years ago. Ran a character up to level 60 and got sick of doing the same instances time and time again while waiting for new content, so I gave away my (givable) stuff and quit. Anyway, I was in the vast minority - probably because for most subscribers WoW is about the social interaction as much as the game itself. This leads me to my next point: Any form of childish internet drama you have experienced will likely be as nothing next to joining a WoW guild. I hate to say it - and I can't scientifically prove it - but you are going to run into more F'd up adolescents, shut-ins, unstable no-lifers and mad-with-fake-power nuts than you will in almost any other situation you will voluntarily put yourself in. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of cool people playing WoW, it's just that they rarely control events because they realize it's a game and can't be bothered.
Anyhow, anybody playing TF2 these days? -
I need to upgrade my GPU before I play anything new these days...

I've been pretty much sucked in during my free time but I don't see it reaching the point of negatively impacting the rest of my life. Those are some crazy stories.
Drano, you're right -- I've seen some pretty childish stuff so far. For the most part, though, it's just been in the general chat channel, and it's easy enough to set it to ignore messages from any blathering twits. There have been a couple of funny moments when I grouped up with people and later on they asked how old I was and it turned out they were 13-or-so-year-olds. For the most part, the people in my guild have been really nice and seem pretty mature. And a lvl 70 mage took me through two of the big instance dungeons -- left with tons of loot and I leveled just from the shared xp alone!
