  • I would prefer a coffee shop first. If there were plenty of coffee shops in the surrounding area, then a hookah shop would be a nice addition, but it just seems that this place is the wrong area for a hookah shop by itself.
  • Coffee shop please, maybe with some lite food (sandwiches, bagels etc)
  • Subject: both!

what's wrong with a hookah/coffee place? dont hookah places usually have coffee and food anyway
a hookah place would be pretty cool, there are already a lot of places to get coffee i think
  • No, there isn't. And most hookah places I know of serve liquor, but not food. I've never seen coffee at those places. And a combo would be bad if there aren't other coffee places in the neighborhood. Some people want to enjoy their coffee smoke-free. A coffee shop is where one can ruminate or read over a cup of coffee or meet friends socially. A hookah bar is primarily social and generally lit too low to do any reading.
  • That particular corner doesn't need a hookah spot, but could definitely use a coffee shop.
  • How far is Fisher's from Saje? A hookah spot might be wiser, but I'm all for coffee shop.

That's what I'm thinking. Even though the other thread is concluding that their service is horrible, if one wants to ruminate and read and congregate and such, they have saje. I guess I feel a hookah would be wiser too, just to bring something dif to the neighborhood. but either would be cool!
  • assuming the building planned for the old mazon's lot gets up and populated, a coffee shop would be smarter -- those people aren't going to walk to saje on their way to the train.

of course, wasn't there talk of a starbucks going there?

either way, i can't see a hookah shop that is only a hookah shop (not also a restaurant of bar) doing well in that location. too specialized a business for what is not a "destination" area -- i mean that customers are likely to be locals only, not people who have come to franklin from other places in order to dine/shop. not a big enough customer base for such a niche enterprise.

    i'd love to see:

    - a GOOD pizza place (not necessarily fancy)
    - a real meat shop or fish shop (seems like fishers would know how to get this done -- and that it wouldn't undercut their existing business too badly since they have a pretty minimal meat selection)
    - somewhere to buy flowers
    - a bookstore/newstand (i know, i'm dreaming)
  • i second the motion for a pizza place
  • I'd be seriously down for a good meat or fish shop.
  • are we talking about that little space next to Fisher's? That seems way too small for anything more than a take out bagel place javascript:emoticon('')
  • Hey, that wouldn't be bad at all. And being near the train is an optimal place. It'll get busy on weekday mornings.
  • Flowers! Books! That would really make my year. Flowers, books and bagels?
  • excellent pizza
    yes!!!!

i heard a rumor that there is a pizza place coming to prospect & franklin (the former motherland 7 stars) but i don't see too much activity
