Mods and personal attacks

It's like moving to North Dakota and complaining about snow. If I moved to Franklin Ave and then went crying to my family about getting beat up, etc, they'd look at me like I was nuts. Different way of thinking I guess, us dopey natives are still worn out from holding down the south Park Slope fort up through the Crack '80s.

Again with the assumptions, RN. The original poster said NOTHING about how long he has lived in Crown Heights. Granted, he very well may be new here -- a lot of folks are -- but how about asking people first instead of leaping to conclusions? And I don't care WHERE you live -- you have every reason to be unhappy and to say something about it if you're a victim of crime. It may be more common in Crown Heights than some other areas. Comparing violent crime to snow is a bogus comparison, and your constant attacks on people who - gasp! - are unhappy about being victimized are tired, unsympathetic, and mean-spirited.
Wow... so I guess personal attacks are only allowed when the mods do it?

If you ever feel that you have been unfairly attacked by a mod, you can contact any of the other mods or an admin by PM, and the case will be reviewed by all of us. Please quote the post in question and post a link to the thread it came from.
Mods have been suspended for inappropriate posts before. We are bound by the same rules as other posters regarding personal attacks. -

Let's just look at my quote again, shall we?apollonia666 wrote: Comparing violent crime to snow is a bogus comparison, and your constant attacks on people who - gasp! - are unhappy about being victimized are tired, unsympathetic, and mean-spirited.
Please note the subjects and verbs of both parts of the sentence you so helpfully put in boldface for all of us. I pointed out an issue with Restless Native's argument style ("comparing violent crime to snow is a bogus comparison" in the first half of the sentence and I pointed out another issue with Restless Native's argument style ("your constant attacks on people who - gasp! - are unhappy about being victimized are tired, unsympathetic, and mean-spirited") in the second half.
Neither of these is a personal attack. I focused on my issue with what Restless Native was saying and how he was saying it, rather than attacking him as a person. A personal attack would have been calling Restless Native a jerk, for example. Let me point out those words "for example" right now too, just in case you take THAT as a personal attack too.
Reading is fundamental!

I may be wrong, but I think the OP wasn't referring specifically to your post, A666, but rather to what they perceived as a general double-standard about personal attacks. That's why I split this off to a new thread- so that we can address this perception and make sure people know that mods are accountable to the same rules as other posters. I agree that if the OP was talking about your post specifically, there was no personal attack there.

Fair enough, but if the OP wasn't talking about my post specifically, I don't understand why he/she highlighted one sentence in particular.

Perhaps there just needs to be a clearer definition of what a personal attack is.
A comment on someone's BEHAVIOR is not a personal attack. "What you are doing is offensive."
A comment on someone's character IS a personal attack. "YOU are offensive!"
A quick indoctrination into fair fighting principles. I wonder if the mods feel like marriage counselors yet.
Howdy, Stranger!
