there's a bank of america opening at bergen and flatbush.
right next to the subway and bergen bagels. -
jaha127 wrote: thats crazy-- its actually cheaper to go to the skeevy bodega atm's?!!
Switch to Chase. In Manhattan, there are more Chase banks than there are Starbucks, plus the Chase ATM's in the Rite Aids that are on the blocks that don't have Chase Banks on them.
I really need a Bank of America by me-- at least a free standing ATM or something-- I have to go all the way downtown or to take the bus or train to Kingston Ave to get to an ATM... kind of makes me want to just switch to Chase out of convenience.
I have no idea why they are doing this. It's pretty damned stupid. It might explain why they have to charge so much to non Chase bankers at their ATM's. -
Subject: South Slope Dis
Once again, this part of the slope is getting completely screwed by the generfication running ahead of the actual area. There are more corporate franchise businesses in this area than any other part of the slope. As I see it, the revitalization of the slope has caused corporations to speculate on the area, and pay higher-than-market rents to grab a piece of the pie. What a shame .. and where is the city trying to help new small businesses open? Thanks Mr. B.
A complete disregard for the neighborhood, fairness in economics, and the people of Brooklyn, as I see it.
And to the landlord of this building, as a landlord, from one landlord to another, a big shame on you for bringing the neighborhood down one more notch for a quick buck.

Hear hear, I agree completely.

I admit I haven't been to many 7-11s but I'm having a hard time figuring out what's so great about them. My experience with them is limited to hitting them up during long road trips. -
Just got the word from the streets--Its official! There is a CITIBANK atm in the 7-11. Hurrah!
Oh, and they're going to be open 24hrs. 5am Slurpees, people! -
^this is kind of a stupid question maybe, but can you make deposits at ATMs? I'm assuming not (and that this is a dumb question) but I thought it's worth a shot...

At those little ones, I don't think so. I don't remember seeing that option last time I used one. -
Pretty sure that would only be possible at the actual bank location
-
that's o-k.. 5th ave around 13th street isn't park slope anyway
-
^what is it?
-
real estate agents & people who dont know better think the slope goes to the higher-number streets, but the slope ends at 9th street.. flatbush to 9th street, and south to 4th ave.

Funny - people who think they know exactly where Park Slope is usually say it ends at 5th Avenue (or sometimes 7th Avenue!) or that it is only the historic district.
The fact of the matter is.... Park Slope is a state of mind
It is wherever you want it to be.
Lighten up. -

Maybe you should check wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Slope,_Brooklyn -
You have to admit, years ago when I first moved to the Slope-anything above 9th or 10th Street was considered South Slope.
-
I've lived on 13th Street between 4th and 5th for two years and can assure Prezst that it is indeed Park Slope.

Can't say I'm happy about the 7-11 being around the corner. Those things belong in the midwest. -

You know, as the Brooklyn geography expert you are - perhaps you should pull out a compass next time you're walking WEST to 4th avenue. -

hehe. 'Cause you know if you're going downhill, it must be south.
-
One I thing I find curious is when people use the words "up" and "above" to refer to the higher-numbered streets in the Slope. To me up is north. ("The Bronx is up and the Battery's down"...)

That's news to me, I have lived here on 14st pretty much my whole life and not until the past year or so have I started to hear people claiming that it's 'not' Park Slope. Asked my neighbor, been here 60yrs, about the 'South Slope' thing - she's never heard of it.
And to think, all these decades me and everyone else on the block thought we lived in Park Slope. Thanks to you newcomers for enlightening us! -

Perhaps you're living in Greenwood Heights. -

Funny, I have lived here for 20 years and up until 7, 8 years ago, it was always South Slope in my mind. -

I love these "what are the official geographic boundaries of Park Slope" threads - it's like the neighborhood version of penis-envy.
I agree - in this day and age - it's a state-of-mind. If you believe you live in PS, then you do. Simple.
From a Dec 2003 NY Times article:
"As broadly defined by brokers marketing real estate there, Park Slope runs all the way from Flatbush Avenue on the north to the Prospect Park Expressway on the south, and from Prospect Park and Prospect Park West to Fourth Avenue on the east. The April 2003 rezoning of Park Slope actually goes as far as Third Avenue on some blocks, and only to 15th Street on the south.
The slope of Park Slope descends gradually from northeast to southwest, leading to the terminology North Slope (from Flatbush Avenue to Union Street), Center Slope (from the south side of Union Street to Fifth or Sixth Streets) and South Slope beyond that. Residents of the southeastern part of the slope, near Prospect Park Southwest, know it as Windsor Terrace.
''Originally, everything south of Ninth Street was just 'South Brooklyn,' '' said Billy Stephens, senior vice president in the Brooklyn office of the Corcoran Group. ''In the mid-70's Park Slope went as far as 15th Street. As time went on, the whole South Slope became 'Park Slope.' '' -
Yay for the citibank ATM!!!!
There are enough 99 cent stores on that stretch to keep you in ass ripping toilet paper for life.
I would take a WaWa over 7-11 any day but am still excited to Slurp this summer. -

My second favorite 99 cent store, Shopping Time, closed. I needed a cheap soap dish, and poof! They were gone.
But, then, in the distance--5 blocks in the distance--Save on Fifth appeared like a plasticine monolith and I breathed a sigh of relief. -
i tried to go to 7-11 last week to use the ATM and it was closed (windows were papered.) Does anyone know if it's open before I hike back down there 15 minutes in the rain?
-
I happened to be walking by this morning and they are OPEN! So knock yourself out....
-
I just walked in and out of there ... upon entering one is assaulted by the bright glare of fluorescent lights and the sickly sweet smell of hazelnut coffee. They aren't fully stocked yet but I can't imagine ever stepping foot in there again unless I had some kind of late night cat food or ice cream emergency.

I'm going to apologize in advance for offending anyone but I've been wanting to say this since this thread started.
What the ever loving fuck is going on? It's a goddamn 7-11! What is so amazingly wonderful about it? There are thousands of them and not one thing special about them. This is NYC, I am at a loss trying to understand why anyone would be excited about a 7-11 opening up here. Please, someone enlighten me!
Again, I apologize if I offended anyone and this rant isn't aimed at any one person. I'm so tired right now that I can't even remember who had good things to say about 7-11.
Howdy, Stranger!
