wireless network help
I'm making myself half-mental with this problem.
I have 2 laptops ....work and personal...one xp, one, vista.....both connected to my Linksys wireless N router (as is my HP all-in-one officejet).
Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago when I started dropping the signal all the time. When it's up, the strength is excellent, but then it disappears for no good reason and takes forever to come back.
I never lose VoIP, just internet.
I called Linkys 10 times and if I speak to one more person in India and explain this again I'll scream. I got them to send me a new router, set it up today again and it started happening rght away.
Anybody have any other ideas? I'm using TW road runner as ISP. Not using cell phone or cordless phone at the same time, so I've ruled that out
thanks.....

Microwave?
Someone else nearby might be using a cordless phone.
Maybe you can switch the channel on the Linksys. -
Just a blind stab at it (without much of your specifics), but if your VOIP services are still working but your intertubes are clogged, perhaps your Time Warner internet server's DNS (domainname-->IPaddress matching) services are the culprit.
In your router's browser config settings, on the setup screen, try using some other DNS servers from elsewhere and see if that helps.
For example, I've been in the OpenDNS ( http://opendns.com ) services pool for a while now, and the water's great.
To use their services, all you need to do is input their DNS servers' IP addresses into your router's setup screen's Static DNS settings fields as follows:
Static DNS 1: 208.67.222.222
Static DNS 2: 208.67.220.220
If your laptops are set to DHCP for their network connection, the router will pass these along.
Otherwise, tether the cat to the laptops with some nice speaker wire and matching foil cap and foil booties (rubber bands usually help).
Not for reception, mind you, just amusement.
But maybe that's just me.
