Crossing 17th Street to get to the Prospect Ave R station — Brooklynian

Crossing 17th Street to get to the Prospect Ave R station

I've become quite sick and tired of dodging aggressive traffic on 17th Street and risking my life to get into that subway station. One of these days, someone is going to get killed. At the very least, I've missed that train so many times waiting until it was safe to cross.

Anyone think it's time for some speedbumps on that block, or a stop sign by the entrance to the Prospect Expressway? What about the folks who live on 17th between 4th and 5th--aren't you fed up with the speeding, honking, jockeying into position and improper merging going on all day long?

  • Hear, hear.

The two "yield to pedestrians" signs there do diddly-squat.
  • Wow, I didn't even notice that there were yield signs. The only folks who ever yield to me are usually kind Volvo/Subaru drivers, but only if they aren't in a hurry.
  • yikes, dodging the impending doom at that intersection was not my ideal way to start the morning when i was living there. i couldnt believe how long after the light changed that people would still be rolling right through the intersection no big deal.

I always think that someone is going to get killed on Prospect Avenue. Every day I see people jay walking through all of that traffic and every day I see some reckless idiot driving towards the BQE. One of these days the two are going to collide. Fortunately, the traffic lights favor the pedestrian on that corner.
