NYC Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walk-A-Thon – Sat. April 5th - Accross Brooklyn Bridge
Join us for a rally and walk-a-thon, and stand up against dating violence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, one in four teens will be a victim of dating violence and 40% of girls ages 14-17 say they personally know someone their age who has been hit or beaten by a boyfriend.
Victims of teen dating violence will tell their stories of trauma and recovery at a City Hall news conference. A featured speaker will be April Hernandez, a Bronx-born, Screen Actors Guild Award nominated actress who won acclaim in the film Freedom Writers and the television series Dexter. Ms. Hernandez is herself a victim of teen dating abuse and is a spokesperson with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Date: Saturday, April 5, 2014
9:00AM – Registration (Cadman Plaza Park NE, Brooklyn Heights)
10:00AM – Rally (Cadman Plaza Park NE, Brooklyn Heights)
11:15AM – Walk across Brooklyn Bridge
