Circus Amok in Prospect Park tomorrow — Brooklynian

Circus Amok in Prospect Park tomorrow

Oooh, fun -- I think I might go:
Circus Amok's Citizen Ship: An Immigrant Rights Fantasia in 10 Short Acts

Circus Amok returns for its 13th season of annual gender-bending urban circuses. This unusual collection of performers will offer 16 free shows in parks and other public spaces throughout New York. Circus Amok continually delights spectators as they juggle political satire, with traditional circus slapstick.

Circus Amok is a one-of-a-kind, free associating, schtick driven, star-studded circus. Directed by the unstoppable bearded lady Jennifer Miller, this poly-sexual troupe of jugglers, stilt walkers, drag divas, and acrobats balances danger with laughter, politics with punchlines. The troupe is accompanied by the blasting, percussive sounds of the six-piece Circus Amok band, playing a variety of international musical styles from klezmer to funk to folk. This year, Circus Amok grapples with immigration reform. Hold on to your green cards, boys and girls.

I just saw some of their act in Washington Square Park yesterday. They are really really entertaining.
  • They were pretty entertaining, and I had no idea who they were beforehand. The Hugo Chavez/Evo Morales/Lula da Silva segments (no, really) were fun for me; probably not so much for the tykes.
  • Applause to apollonia666 for bringing this to our attention; greatly enjoyed.

Seems like the original Tyke was never much of a fan of the circus either.
  • Aww, thanks! I'm a dork -- didn't end up going myself. But I'm glad some of you did!
