Governors Island Art Fair

Gowanus Swim Society is pleased to announce their participation in the 7th Annual Governors Island Art Fair.  GIAF is New York’s largest independent exhibition and will feature 100 rooms of multidisciplinary works of art, located within abandoned army barracks at Governors Island. The swimmers of GSS have created an aquatic installation titled SUBMERGED, that integrates the complex history of the Gowanus Canal with the varying artistic styles of its members.  Gowanus Swim Society would like to extend an open invitation to attend their newest project.  

The Summer 2014 Swim Team is comprised of artists John Azelvandre, Jennifer Dwyer, John Fisk, Abbie Groff, Kristen Haskell, Christina Kelly, Suzy Kopf, Natalie Lomeli, Mary Negro, and Justin Whitkin.

Gowanus Swim Society is an artist collective based in and out of the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn. The collective is focused on creating a forum for critique, resourceful dialogue, collaboration, and the presentation of artwork.  It is the goal of GSS to create a social space for the expansion of artistic community in the Gowanus neighborhood.  More information about the collective can be found at www.gowanusswimsociety.com.
