Volunteer to Help Make NYC Students Readers for Life

Volunteer for Behind the Book and help inspire NYC public school students to become readers for life. We bring accomplished authors and their books into high-need
classrooms, where they teach students how to write and illustrate their very own books. Our programs build literacy skills and nurture a new generation of readers in grades K-12 at schools throughout the city.

As a classroom volunteer, you’ll coach and support students as they craft stories and create artwork for their unique classroom project. Just a few hours a month is all it takes to be part of a program that has lasting impact for students in our underserved communities. No previous experience necessary.
