Protesters, cops, helicopters and whatnot, Dec 13th, 8:30 PM

After a day of marching in Manhattan, it seems some of the protesters came across the Brooklyn Bridge, briefly congregated in front of Barclays, and are now marching down residential streets.

I have been told the protesters hope to make is as far as NYCHA's Pink Houses (out in ENY on Linden Blvd.).    The Pink Houses is where a resident was recently shot by NYPD in a stairwell.

As of 10:15, they were walking east, past Lincoln Terrace Park.    Hence, they are leaving CH and my coverage of this event now ends.

And they left as quick as they came.

The fact that life goes on likely frustrates those who literally want to "shut it down".

Over the next two weeks, I predict we will see the protests:

1. Fade out, or

2. Become violent (possibly in response to the police becoming violent to them), or

3. Occupy some public space to try to get sustained media attention, or

4. Get in line behind a common leader who becomes the spokesperson.

@whynot - there is plenty of related reading that will argue the opposite of what you're predicting.

Follow @deray or @nettaaaaaaaa and you'll see that this movement is sustained, has been sustained since events in Ferguson, has not been violent to police or fellow citizens, they may occupy public spaces to make statements but they're not media whores and they're not falling in line with the established leaders.

As we are aware, efforts to modify how US police forces operate predate Ferguson.

I'm think I am most interested in seeing whether a new leader evolves.

My sense is that the majority of the 25k people who walked in Manhattan were highly educated, thoughtful people who realize the scope of the challenges.

As a result, I don't think they are going to continue marching and having die-ins.

I am optimistic that they (and their sympathizers) might donate to established think tanks and policy orgs.
