Compost Recess! Prospect Heights Community Farm
The Compost is frozen and we are out of room for more contributions! Unfortunately we're not going to be able to accept any more contributions until April. In the meantime, you can compost at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturdays or the Q train entrance on Park Place on Wednesday mornings between 8am and 10am.

The NYC compost project is picking up at Franklin Ave on Wednesday mornings. Here's an email they sent last week --With your help we have established a location for our second food scrap drop-off site sponsored by the NYC Compost Project hosted by Brooklyn Botanic Garden! We will be set up on the northern corner of Franklin Avenue & Eastern Parkway near Capitol One Bank and the 2, 3, 4 and 5 subway trains. Collections will start on Wednesday, February 25 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and will be held each Wednesday, at the same time, moving forward. Our first drop off site, on the corner of Carlton Avenue & Park Place, has been a huge success! Over the last few weeks we've had increasing turn-outs. We hope that with greater awareness more people will stop by (Wednesdays, same time, 8 AM – 10 AM).We're sure you are just as excited as we are to start composting your food scraps! Below are some tips to make sure everything goes smoothly (on your end and ours)Drop off fruit and vegetables scraps, coffee grounds/filters and tea bags, plant waste, and unprocessed grains. No meat, greasy foods, or dairy.Simply drop off your scraps and be on your way.Frequent drop offs will prevent food scrap storage from becoming a space issue. Here are some recommendations to make storing your food scraps clean and easyStore food waste in a reusable container. There will be a separate trash container for any plastic bags but keep in mind paper bags and reusable containers are much friendlier to the environment!Place your container of food waste in the fridge or freezer to prevent any odor issues.Food scraps will be composted locally in Brooklyn and used in tree beds, parks, and other green spaces to keep Brooklyn blooming. We’re glad to see so many people devote a little time to compost and show interest in the NYC Compost Project and can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday!NYC Compost ProjectBrooklyn Botanic Garden1000 Washington AvenueBrooklyn, NY 11225
