Join Our 5K Run/Walk in Prospect Park to Fund Kids' Literacy Programs
Join Team Behind the Book on Sunday, March 29th for our first annual 5k Run/Walk in Prospect Park! The funds we raise will go to our literacy programs, directly benefiting the NYC public school students we work with. Walkers, runners, and the differently-abled are all encouraged to participate.
You can register right now at www.generositybrooklyn.com/btb. The Generosity Series (www.genevents.com), which runs the event, provides all the tools you need to meet your fundraising goal, including your own webpage, sample e-mails, and more.
Please note that if you want to raise money for Behind the Book by reaching out to others, you should register as a "team." Your team consists of those people who donate to your effort to reach your goal. If you prefer to pay the goal amount yourself, sign up as an individual.
Date: Sunday, March 29th, 2015
Time: 7:30 AM for bib and t-shirt pickup. The race begins at 9:00 AM.
Place: Prospect Park. Enter near the Peristyle on Parkside Avenue, just past Parade Place.
How it works: Register for the race at www.generositybrooklyn.com/btb. (Again, if you plan to ask others to donate, sign up as a team. If you want to pay the $200 fee yourself, register as an individual.)
Cost: Participants commit to raising or donating at least $200. There's also a $20 registration fee per participant.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: The registration site states that if you do not raise $200 by the event date, your credit card will be charged the difference between $200 and the amount you've raised. While you're required to check a box confirming your agreement to this to continue with registration, Behind the Book WILL NOT charge your credit card under these circumstances.
Please remember, though, that Behind the Book pays $100 per participant, so please make every effort to raise and/or contribute AT LEAST $200. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Amy Berg, our Director of Development, at [email protected].
Example: Jane registers as a team at www.generositybrooklyn.com/btb. Using her fundraising page, she recruits 10 of her co-workers to donate $10 each. Then she sends a sample email to her friends and family. Her brother donates $50, and three of her nephews each donate $5. She also posts links to her fundraising page on Facebook and Instagram, raising $35 from her college roommates. Voilà! Jane has raised $200 for Behind the Book!
Please register today, and start limbering up to run/walk/roll with us on March 29th!
If you have questions or need help with registration, email Amy Berg at [email protected].
