Subject: WYSIWYG Talent Show, Sept. 20: "Pink Slips: You're Fire
The WYSIWYG Talent Show presentsPink Slips: You’re Fired!
at Bowery Poetry Club
Two little words have been striking terror into the hearts of hapless wage slaves everywhere since long before anyone ever heard of The Donald or his hair. The WYSIWYG Talent Show, NYC’s first and only all-blogger reading and performance series, explores the funny side of soul-sucking sudden-unemployment desperation with “Pink Slips: You’re Fired†at 8 p.m. on September 20, 2006.
Every month The WYSIWYG TALENT SHOW brings you readings and performances from some of the blogosphere’s best and funniest writers, musicians, comedians and performance artists. Pink Slips features appearances by comedian Liam McEneany (Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, VH1’s Best Week Ever), author Peter Hyman (The Reluctant Metrosexual), and comedian and writer Jon Friedman (The Rejection Show). It’s also the last WYSIWYG for our graphic designer and webmaster, blogging veteran Dan Rhatigan, before he leaves New York City for graduate school in England, so come see him off in style!
The WYSIWYG Talent Show’s “Pink Slips: You’re Fired†performs Wednesday, September 20 at Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery between Bleecker and Houston). Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door. For more information visit http://wysiwygtalentshow.org, http://bowerypoetry.com or call (212) 614-0505.

About the performers:
Liam McEneaney is a comedian/blogger who has appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend†and did a stint as a regular talking head on VH1’s “Best Week Ever.†Most recently, Liam was a writer for Comedy Central's “Stand-Up Nation with Greg Giraldo†for two seasons. You don't have to pretend you've seen it, Liam's proud of his work on the show regardless. Liam tours all over as a stand-up comedian. You can read all about his regrettably neurotic adventures at kidliam.blogspot.com.
Jon Friedman (rejectionshow.com) is a writer/comedian and comedy show producer from New York City. He is the creator and host of “The Rejection Show,†a show that features the rejected material of writers, comedians, cartoonists, artists, and everyday human folks. Jon is also the creator and producer of The New York City Beard & Moustache Championships. His work and future projects can be found on the web at
tremendousrabbit.com.
Peter Hyman is a journalist, author and some time talk show host. He has written for The New York Times, The New York Observer, Details, Spin, Radar, The San Francisco Chronicle, and various others. His first book, a collection of essays entitled The Reluctant Metrosexual: Dispatches from an Almost Hip Life was published in 2004. As a comedic performer, he has appeared on such stages as those of The Moth, PSNBC at the Marquee Theater and Eating It! at Luna Lounge, as well as smaller, poorly attended venues across the country. If you are really bored, you can learn more at www.pdhyman.com.
“Stolie | The Funky Brown Chick†is a Manhattan-based artist who takes pictures, paints, and writes. She is also very highly skilled at making herself look like an ass in public places. A proud New Yorker since April 2005, she has previously lived in Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Chicago, London and a bunch of other places with really tall buildings. Check her out. She gives good blog at funkybrownchick.blogspot.com.
Chris Alonzo (christastrophe.livejournal.com) is the co-producer of Suburban Vampire Productions and a former playwriting fellow at the New York Theatre Workshop. His plays and one man shows have been produced in Austin, El Paso, Dallas, Minneapolis and New York, most notably at PSNBC @ HERE, the Ontological-Hysteric, The Kraine and The Tank. He is featured in the book Monologues for Men by Men by Heinemann Press and got called an “uncommon genius†by NYTheatre.com. Which is cool but, then again, it’s a website. Still it’s cool. One time he got an e-mail tip printed on Gawker, but he didn’t get a comment invite or nothin’. Oh, and his band (ghostrunnernyc.com) kicks ass.
Dan Rhatigan (or “Sparky,†as you may know him) has been blogging at ultrasparky.org longer than most of you, which is why he doesn't have many stories left to tell. He's moving to England for a year to look for new material, not because he got fired by the WYSIWYG ringmaster.
Drub maintains drubskin.com - his personal site, blog, and porny, boy-on-boy, punk portfolio brimming with good dirty fun. He's shown his art prints in 4 countries and people have enjoyed them in magazines, greeting cards, and graced playrooms and bedrooms worldwide.
