Man arrested on June 16th on President St, near Troy Ave

A reader sent me this video, which was reportedly taken on June 16th (yesterday) on President St., near Troy Ave.

The NYC Sheriffs Dept seems to be executing an arrest warrant, with the help of the NYPD.

I don't know anything about the nature of the warrant, or the criminal history of the person being arrested.   So, I can't say I am really bothered the by the amount of force used.

I'm interested in what others think, based on only the limited info we have.

  • I suspect that the arrestee wasn't wanted for skipping just service. He wasn't complying fully and the cops seemed to have responded appropriately. However we won't know for sure untill we find out what the intial warrant was for. By the way the cops did move him to the grass before tackling him.
  • Well done by the cops. All stayed calm even though the arrestee was not complying.  When the cops say get on the ground, do it.  They even took him down on the grass when they could have rightfully smashed him onto the pavement.  Good job all around.

I find it interesting that the guy came out of his house.

I suspect the Sheriff called him beforehand and stated somethng like "We want to talk with you, when you see us arrive, come out"

This avoids them having to work in the confined space of the building, where there are other people, kitchen knives, etc.

He seemed to come out readily, but then becomes uncooperative.
  • Apparently, the sheriff's department was watching that house for quite some time.  That morning on my way to the train, I saw a sheriff's car (without officers) blocking the alleyway on Troy.  I mentioned this to a friend, and he said that they've been around there for a while watching.
