Who leased 290 Flatbush (former Chase Bank)?
Looks like realty signs are down and gut renovations are in full swing in the former Chase Bank (former Brooklyn Tabernacle for the old-timers). Anyone know what business signed the lease?
It's a pretty large commercial space for that part of Flatbush, and the rents up there have soared since Barclays opened.

I heard from one of the nearby tenants that a BABELAND (sex toys) type of shop is going in. I also heard a large spa and nail salon, so take your pick.

I would be surprised if something that is not corporately owned leased the space.

Love that we've come full-circle re: "sex accessory" shops...once they were what moved in when all "respectable" businesses had lost interest, or been scared off by crime, etc.As those neighborhoods (and rents) recovered, began to gentrify, new neighbors and higher rents drove them away.Enter progressive, young, gentrified Brooklyn, and places like Babeland serving 'cool', 'progressive', maybe even 'bespoke' - sex toys to hipsters - are welcomed and can actually afford the outrageous new rents.Putting the 'anal' back in 'artisanal' Brooklyn.

The displays should be different than they were in Peep World.

For example, I see no reason why one could not display such items on reclaimed wood and lit by Edison light bulbs.
Put a few books by Proust around for good measure. -
The former Chase Bank has become CITYMD. They pulled out of their lease at the corner location at 347 Flatbush and that is back up for rent.

I recently heard that Chase Bank will become a walk in emergency medical clinic taking all insurance.
The landlord who owns the corner building at Park Place and Flatbush along with the smaller stores around the corner, wants to sell the entire lot to the highest developer. I heard Pintchik/TRG, are interested in turning this into a luxury rental units, building up to 8 stories with high end commercial retail wraparound on the ground floor, think CB10, etc. -
and if you look at the Babeland on Bergen, they had numerous complaints when they first moved into the space from residents, and they changed their front window to a very discrete front without any merchandise but a very nice forward street facing signage.

As said above, the new business is CityMD, which is an excellent walk-in medical provider as far as I'm concerned.

Good. I could have used this last winter when I needed one one Saturday morning when I had the flu. (I had to drag myself to Atlantic Avenue and Nevins instead. It was one more stop away on the subway, but when you're feeling that crappy, it feels so much further.) -
Honestly, this is a fantastic outcome for the space and the neighborhood. Blown away at how efficient CityMD is when you *know* you have a throat infection, inevitably on a weekend, and just need to get your damn antibiotics.
Honestly, having been to the 5th Ave / 9th St location, I'm convinced this is the future of civilized, market-priced healthcare. -
Apparently I'm suffering a bout of acute honesty. I'm off to the clinic.
