Thanks Why_Not!Tonight's event should be a lot of fun and a great way to gather neighborhood support for the anti-gun violence work we do.We also have raffle prizes from Modell's, Starbucks, and Lula Bagel plus S.O.S. water bottles and our classic t-shirts!

Given the low donation you are asking for (only $5?), this event seems to be more about community engagement than Fundraising.
This is in sharp contrast to the gala invitations I regularly receive from non-profits that ask for $250.
I think I have enough SOS swag, but could certainly use a beer. -
We are definitely hoping to use this event as an engagement opportunity to invest people in the S.O.S. mission. We want the evening to be welcoming and accessible to everyone. Also, we are very much hoping to raise funds to continue supporting the work! $5 is the suggestion but donations of all sizes are welcomed
For folks who can't make it tonight, donations can also be made online by selecting Crown Heights Community Mediation Center from the drop down menu here: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1395090/ mobile

I'm optimistic that people who (for whatever reasons) won't go to a shooting response, will go to this.
In other words: For several reasons having beer in Maxwell's is a lot easier for many people to do than standing by a newly created shooting shrine on Albany and Bergen.
Beer is tasty. Having a beer tends to make people relaxed and meet each other, whereas a going to a shooting response where you don't know anyone is kind of a downer, and a pretty heavy lift for someone who has not lost someone they care about to violence. -
Definitely. And hopefully bringing in people for something comfortable like this will help them feel more ready to go to a shooting response or other S.O.S. event later on. We are always trying to build our network and that means reaching out to people in many different ways. Also one more update - drink specials! For those who prefer liquor over beer:

Thanks to everyone who came out on Wednesday! We packed Maxwell's Restaurant and Bar with S.O.S. supporters and neighbors, raising close to $1,000 through in person and online donations.Folks from the Brownsville Justice Center, GMAAC, and Violence Out Brownsville showed up, as well as supporters from Brooklynian, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Fine Fare, the local discount store and barber shop by our office, and of course, many of our dedicated volunteers, neighbors, and personal family and friends. If you were not able to make it and would like to donate online, you can do so by selecting Crown Heights Community Mediation Center from the drop down menu here: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1395090/mobile
