Rash of Car Break Ins — Brooklynian

Rash of Car Break Ins

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, or fallen victim to it, but there seems to have been a rash of car break-ins on Underhill the past couple weeks. Every time I'm out with Lulu I see a car who's window has been smashed in and tonight a friend who lives around the corner from me discovered that his car, parked on Underhill at Dean (right in front of Purity) was broken into. They didn't take a thing! He'll be calling the precinct tomorrow to let them know so maybe we'll get a few more cop cars cruising along. I'm going to call as well just to be an extra voice in this thing. Suggest that if you're worried about car break-ins or god forbid having a gun pulled on you (so glad you're ok paulbanks) more of us should call the local precinct and complain about the rash of strange behavior in the neighborhood.

I believe PH is in the crosshairs of a few precincts.

77 Precinct Crown Heights
127 Utica Avenue
(718) 735-0611

78 Precinct Park Slope
65 Sixth Avenue
(718) 636-6411

88 Precinct Fort Greene
298 Classon Avenue
(718) 636-6511

Stay safe out there!

  • There's been A LOT of busted out car windows around Lincoln Place and Classon for the past few weeks too.
  • Subject: random car break ins

I've noticed it all . I ran into a girl on Underhill btwn bergen and dean taping up her driver's side front window. it had been busted in over night. they took nothing. a little nervous about it because I live in that area and have a car.
I think bugging the 77 about this is key! I've heard of five breaks and seen three in the past two weeks. The latest was today. A car parked on St. mark's btwn Vanderbilt and Underhill. Right outside of PS9.

They hit Underhill pretty hard in the last 2-3 weeks. I would say about 5 cars and for each car they didn't take anything either.

Something similar to this happened on that block about 2-3 years ago. Someone slashed the tires of about 7 cars.
  • Call me cynical, but it sounds like it could be the work of an auto window repair shop and/or a tire shop.

I was thinking the same thing, Medusa. Last week I noticed shattered glass on the sidewalk where it appeared to have come from two cars that were parked right next to each other. Who takes the time to bust out one window and look around for shit to steal then after that bust out the window of the car next to it and repeats the process? I guess maybe someone who's quick and experienced or maybe there was more than one person. Either way it sucks for car owners but great for the glass repair business.
  • Subject: Another Smashed Window

They smashed another window on St. Johns between Underhill and Washington last night...destroyed the entire windshield...stole nothing. i'm nervous for my car.
