Is there anything noteable happening this week?

marching against GW Bush outside the UN tomorrow morning

or conversely, avoiding Manhattan activities as much as possible on Tuesday due to traffic jams when heads of state are at the U.N. Large areas are blocked off so their limos can pass by unencumbered -- that nonsense tends to snarling things up pretty widely and unpredictably.
I like to take almost all out of town guests shopping at Century 21.
Outside of that, it depends on the person and what they like.
The only unusual thing I've heard of in Prospect Park this week is some display refugee camp that Doctors Without Borders is setting up to show what they do - they were in Central Park this weekend, moving soon to Brooklyn.
nonsensenyc.com makes a goofy list of stuff and
http://www.manhattanusersguide.com/ is pretty keen -

what time does that get going? someone at a party suggested I should get my smartypants self over there some night . . . . -
Actually, I have never been but am hoping to attend tomorrow night. It sounds like fun. I think it starts at 8:30-9. They give out prizes to the winner too.
I am always down for prizes. -
You can also take them to the San Ganero (sp?) feast in Little Italy. On weekdays its pretty empty.

"San Gennaro"
the part of this thread that was hijacked to discuss Cattyshack is split off to "SPLIT TOPIC: do i have to be a girl?"

oh, san gennaro.

remember when it wasn't seedy and creepy and wasn't filled with all the same old street fair people? when you could actually get food from the restaurants and the zeppoles were authentic? sigh. i'm getting old -
i had a pretty fan-frickin-tastic bracciole on sunday, from a stand on the corner of i think grand. it was the stand that said it was voted 'best sausage at the feast", by this pathetic looking ride that was being hawked as "virtual re-al-ity."

Take them for a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. It is free and you get to see some great views of NYC. You could also take them to Coney Island, walk around the waterfront in DUMBO, funky scultures all over the place. A freind also told me that there is good free music in McClaren park in Williamsburg.

Is the tram back up and running again? That's always been one of my favorite things to take people from out of town to do. Go at sunset, take the tram back and forth (no real reason to spend any time on Roosevelt Island itself). It's one of the best views there is of the city skyline.
