I'm guessing that that lesbian-obsessed straight boys, pendejo* or otherwise, are not the desired participants. Sorry hon!

i know if i go with a lesbian girl i can def. get in fer sure!
if i go with a non lesbian girl. then can i go?
â€â€and how would you know at the door? -
do they charge a cover for this quiz night? I've found that a lot of lesbian bars (bars, mind, not clubs or concerts or shows) in the city charge covers which I always find disconcerting and confuses the whole lesbians-are-broke-ass stereotype. so I tend to avoid them, even though I think I'd find them comfortable spaces.
-
I say we get a straight boy posse going and head over some time. I think the concept of lesbian and gay bars is offensive anyway. Self segregation in general bothers me.
Gee, I'm glad the karma system is down now. -
No cover on trivia night - and last time I went, there were 5 or 6 guys there playing. Not a big deal at all. Just don't venture up the stairs

I am a straight happily married woman and I stopped in there for a drink with my husband the other night. Everyone is welcome there. You don't have to be gay, bi, etc. It is just a bar with a cool, relaxed, fun vibe.
The bartenders and the owner kick ass. So friendly. -

There's a critical difference that I'm shocked, SHOCKED you are missing...
Ladies and gentlemen, trannies and their chasers, our first trivia question of the night! WHAT is q missing?

Maybe that was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek but I find it offensive to assume that just because a straight person, or a man in this case, would want to hang with lesbians, means he's obsessed with them. Maybe he's just glbtq friendly.
As someone who worked in a gay bar for three years, I have to say we liked the female patrons, even when they were straight (or the straight male patrons too).
For some, gay/lesbian bars are just nice to go to cause they have a different and often more comfortable atmosphere (for some of us) than straight bars.
Anyway, I go to Ginger's every now and again with my g/f cause we like the place and it has a good juke box. Certainly not because I'm obsessed.

who is assuming anything?
q is a total L-obsessor
men do fine at cattyshack - men work at cattyshack, men drink at the shack, there's even gay mens nights at cattyshack
I myself have been to the place with men. straight men! it's sooo not the point. -

â€â€you should never assume Pitu
'cuz as felix unger said, whenever you assume.
you make an ASS of U and ME
but to your point...
i've dated many lesbian women
â€â€it's kinda hard not to living in the slope
i just wouldn't call it an obsession
i'll still kick your ass at triviadotdotdot -

KD - as somebody who is [/u]very glbt friendly, I totally agree with you. I've been to all kinds of bars - gay, lesbian, transvestite. Many of them are just fun places to go. I'd be into a good trivia night no matter what type of bar it is.
I guess that makes me a L-obsessed straight girl in some people's eyes, but that's fine with me. I try hard not to put labels on everything. -

Assuming nothing!
And I didn't think it was a secret, so sorry dude . . .
You've been pretty casually and consistently putting L'Obsession out there on these boards. I kinda thought you were posing as a lesbian yourself for awhile...
If anybody is really that interested, sift through old threads. Other people enjoy the evidence gathering, I don't.
I *do* have an awfully good memory tho . . .
A pal of mine worked at Meow Mix when that movie "Chasing Amy" came out. For the next year or so, the place was lousy with straight couples trying to live out some fantasy. SOOOOO TEDIOUS for the actual lesbians. That's my point. -

no thanks
lesbian-obsessed straight boys, phooey!
can I get an AMEN?
I ask the women, straight or gay, bi or questioning,
do YOU find lesbian-obsession in straight men/boys creepy?
THERE'S a poll for the Park Slope board somewhere in that . . .
-
oh man :-s
you and the tea of sweet have it in for me
can a brother get some love here? -

Seriously! I don't think I've ever heard of a gay man bashing the women who love them.......and nobody even said in this thread they "love lesbians", just that Cattyshack is cool and they have trivia. -

I can see where pitu is going. I dated a guy once had a real "thing" for lesbians in the porno, I-just-wanna-watch sort of way. I took him to Henrietta Hudson's one Friday night. hilarious. the lesbians there, at that time at least, were actively hostile toward him. it was a real wake up call for him and his fetishizing of lesbianism.
and I've definitely been in gay bars and met gay men that fit the gay-men-are-misogynists stereotype.
do I think the people wanting to go to trivia night at cattyshack are like any of those examples? probably they aren't. but I can see why the question has come up. -

Just out of curiousity, if a woman "loving gay men" is fag-hag, is there a term for a man "loving lesbian women?" I mean, aside from the too wordy "lesbian-obsessed straight boys."

Nobody on this board has sat there and said "wow, two chicks making out - that's why I want to go to Cattyshack. Maybe they'll let me join in".
With so much intolerance in this world, you'd think that there'd be a bit of praise for somebody who says "I don't really care who you are and who you sleep with". -

cause fag hag is such a pleasant term. -
Oh and as another aside, the title for this topic, Do I Have To Be A Girl would make a great Drag King (or queen depending on the spin) autobiography/book title. Seriously, I'd probably read it. Then again, I'm, kinda obsessed with gay culture in general (noooo, not lesbians
) -

you know. i've always meant to go check out "Excelsior" on 5th.
And while I'm wondering... are there any really good gay bars in the PS area?
but none of my straight male friends have ever been interested or had the cojones
wanna go check it out KD? O:)
wait. does my asking make me gay now? :-k -
