I can't say it is riveting.    I wonder if it will get people who are visiting NYC to put Franklin Avenue on their list.

I'll listen to this on my commute tomorrow, but does anyone find it odd that Gawker is doing an entire podcast series on Franklin Ave restaurants?

I do not.

Franklin Ave is frequently written about on Curbed, Gawker, YIMBY and Gothamist in large part because several of their young, moderately paid, staff members lives in the area.

Do you remember in high school when the year book staff and their friends always seemed to be featured prominently in the yearbook?

...in this instance, their neighborhood is akin to their friends.

This is one of the most jaw-droppingly boring things I've ever heard. 

They spend the first full 5 minutes establishing that this podcast is in fact about food (and not, for example, politics) on Franklin (although who knows one day they might expand) 

Is there really an audience for this? Seems like a parody of the scenario where someone says, of their insular boring conversation, "hey our conversation should become a podcast!" and then makes one... In the first episode, about Mayfield, they just talk about the various people they've eaten there with (my friend Brian, my cousin) and what they ordered (i like to get an omelette with cheese and spinach)

In a world where clicks on the webpage result in revenue, that is all that matters.

...IE it doesn't actually matter if the vast majority of listeners do not make it past the 5 min mark of the podcast.

The advertisers just want views of their ads on the page.

I listened to about 10 minutes of it this morning and had to turn it off. It's pretty boring and there is no coherent flow to the conversation. I knew before that Hamilton Nolan lives on my block, and I guess the other guy lives nearby too. It's good to get more press for the neighborhood, especially from a "national" media source, but it seems misdirected and poorly executed. I guess that if it was just a couple no-name dudes producing it, or even these two writers doing it independently, it wouldn't seem to be so bad, but to have the Gawker stamp on it seems to warrant a better report.

I'm pretty sure this is a parody podcast that's about as "real" as Spinal Tap.

I assumed it was ironic but didn't have the attention span to give it a chance to do anything interesting.  so freaking boring.

I couldn't listen to the whole thing either, but don't see how it's "ironic".  Not everything that hip people do is ironic..

@whynot_31 do you really view Gawker as "struggling?" I'm not in the publishing or media field by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm only stating this as a media consumer, but they seem just about as struggling as BuzzFeed or Huffington Post.

i just listened to this podcast. it's clearly 100% satirical; which explains its boringness. but what i found interesting is that i recently learned one of the podcast presenters bought an apartment on my block in Flatbush. ...so. they don't both live on franklin anymore, and the last episode sort of reflects that (in them saying they'll probably stop putting episodes out soon)
