Why are the registered sex offenders staying in the bedford shelter not registered to the address?
Can anyone here help me shed some light on this? I have tried to get answers from 311, nypd and even friends in the nypd but never a straight answer. Are they not required because it is considered transient housing? Can that be changed if people get involved? After living around the corner for over half a decade I have seen a lot come and go and a handful of dangerous ones stick around for years but remain off the official "map" because of this loophole. For example, those in the area probably recognize this man who is registered to an "unknown" address but stays at the shelter and frequently walks pacific, bergen, and dean around bedford and nostrand : http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/SomsSUBDirectory/offenderDetails.jsp?offenderid=5976
I actually just saw him shake a woman down and hug her after she gave him money so he's still kicking around.
