Volunteer as a book designer for NYC literacy non-profit
Through our rich, innovative programs, students work with accomplished authors and illustrators--many of them Brooklyn-based--to create their own writing and artwork that is published by Behind the Book.
Proficiency in InDesign is required. Depending on length, each book generally takes from 18 to 30 hours over the course of four weeks to complete. Working under the guidance of our art director, you can commit on a project-to-project basis, and may work from home (our office is in Harlem).
This is an ideal opportunity for designers with an eye for layout, skill with the required software, a passion for education and literacy, and the desire to build a portfolio of professional work. See examples of previously published books in our gallery of student work .
To apply, please send a link to a portfolio or examples of your work, along with a cover letter describing your interest, to [email protected]. Please use "Book Designer" as your subject line.
