Lowerline bar coming to 794 Washington (near Sterling)

It is in the former location of the grilled cheese place, which we jabbered about here http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/38266/mrs-dorsey-s-kitchen#latest Comments

Lic in pending status. However, they are only seeking beer, wine and cider, which tends to move much faster than a lic that seeks to serve hard liquor. https://www.tran.sla.ny.gov/servlet/ApplicationServlet?pageName=com.ibm.nysla.data.publicquery.PublicQuerySuccessfulResultsPage&validated=true&serialNumber=1304152&licenseType=RW

plywood gone. Very little construction equipment left on inside.

Liquor lic effective today! Sign in window says they will open soon! ...everything inside appears to be ready to go. https://www.tran.sla.ny.gov/servlet/ApplicationServlet?pageName=com.ibm.nysla.data.publicquery.PublicQuerySuccessfulResultsPage&validated=true&serialNumber=1304152&licenseType=RW

Place looks pricey at $15 for a Po-Boy sandwhich, they better be large and good. The Oyster prices also baffled me, but I can't remember off the top of my head what it was set at. I live right next door, so was hoping for an affordable place for nights I get home late and don't want to cook.

The origin story for po' boys I heard in New Orleans is that during the depression, generous grocers would pile tons of meat or seafood between bread, and charge the customers the usual sandwich cost. There is definitely something fishy about charging $15. Maybe if Lowerline called them Trust Fund Boys, I would feel better about it.

I was just in New Orleans three weeks ago. The going price for fat po' boys filled with freshly fried seafood starts around $12 or $13. Granted, you get them cheaper at gas stations and other spots, but seafood po' boys ain't cheap. http://www.domilisespoboys.com/ http://www.killerpoboys.com/big-killer-menu

An entree for $15 is about the norm of Washington at this point

Almost! It was the Depression, but the story goes that the Martin Brothers, who used to be streetcar operators and subsequently opened a market/restaurant, supported striking streetcar workers by providing these sandwiches for free to their "poor boys". http://www.poboyfest.com/history Regardless, Lowerline is LEGIT. I've been once so far and had the half-po-boy/gumbo combo, and it gets the seal of approval from this Louisiana boy. I'm probably going again this weekend to try more of the menu.howncreights said:The origin story for po' boys I heard in New Orleans is that during the depression, generous grocers would pile tons of meat or seafood between bread, and charge the customers the usual sandwich cost.
