Commute Q?

I'm taking a job in Midtown Manhattan at the end of the year and someone at the company mentioned Park Slope as a place worth checking out due to my wife/baby status. Previously, I've only been looking for a place in the UWS and UES and coming from Dallas I've been fairly surprised at how little you get for so much money.

Anyway, what kind of subway commute can I expect from Park Slope to Grand Central Station? I'm a little concerned with a long commute because I want to spend as much time out of work with my family as possible. This is the primary reason I've mainly been looking in Manhattan so far.

Thanks in advance and any other information anyone would like to pass along would be appreciated.

I've done it in as little as 25 minutes, but I would think 30-45 minutes on average depending on what part of the slope and what trains.

Per the schedule the #4 train goes from Nevins St to Grand Central in 19 minutes during the rush hour with trains ever 4-7 minutes. You'll have to add walking time to and from the subway and you office. I've only commuted on that line from UES to but from there it was very crowded and slow

Thanks. The office is virtually next door to Grand Central Terminal so the walk from there would be fairly minimal.

Just from looking at a subway map it appears the Bergen St and Grand Army Plaza stations would be closer to PS but there's not access to the #4. Maybe it's not as far as it appears.

I go to Grand Central daily and take the 2/3 from Grand Army Plaza, switch at Nevins right across the platform, then take the 4/5 to GCS. I give myself 45 minutes so that I'm not stressed having to rush.

Have you tried taking the Q from the 7th avenue stop and then switching to the S at Times Square?

The Q takes about 20 minutes to Times Square and the S is very regular, only one stop to Grand Central. Total is no more than 25 minutes.

not gonna comment on the trains, but park slope beats the pants off ues and uws any day of the week from restaurants to well the damn nice park :P. and its really kid friendly. alot of strollers every where.

Moved from UWS to PS two years ago looking for some financial relief. NOT! The houses may be a little cheaper if you look at it per sq ft, but the shops and services are just as expensive, if not more. Housekeepers charge $15-$25 an hour, babysitters $12-$15, coffee is expensive at the Cocoa Bar, Tearoom, CT Muffin and *$$. You would not want to be caught dead in the Methodist Hospital. And the commute by subway to Midtown / Downtown is unreliable at best (this morning the R chose to 'go over the bridge' again). The park is nice, but Central Park is nicer. Would move back to the UWS if I get the chance.
