Subject: Christie's Chicken Patty Freakonomics

So, I'm sitting outside of Christie's enjoying one our neighborhood's indigenous "value meals" when it occurred to me how awesome I was because I actually remember when the chicken patties were $1.25 (now $1.85!).

Then it occurred to me that I have neighbors that are even more awesome than I because they may remember when Christie's patties where even cheaper than THAT. And then I became sad.

So, how awesome are you? How much was a chicken patty when you first moved into the neighborhood?

Anyone that says they remember when patties were 7 cents and Ting rained down free from the heavens is officially MAYOR OF PROSPECT HEIGHTS (for a day).

Muk out.

  • Honestly, patties are still $1.25 over on Nostrand Avenue. Anything more is a crime.
  • When I was in college, there was a coffee shop that served Ting for 3.50! and this was 10+ years ago. I consider 1.25 a bargain.

The chicken sandwiches were 1.50 when I moved here and now they have been steady at 2.00 for the last five years. Try them with the bodega special hot sauce.
  • You could get a nice beef patty on a coco bread for under $1 in 1977 at Christie's. I think the patty was about 60 cents. Ting was not available at the time.

Mi son a say it nuh nice like first time so we nah go deh again.

  • Subject: best patties

I can't claim any seniority on this issue at all, but I have recently explored the prospect heights patty scene as thoroughly as possible... and I wanted to throw in the fact that I think the best patties you can get are the Honey BBQ Chicken patties at Little Miss Muffin right by the Park St. entrance to the 7th ave. Q train. For some reason, with the BBQ patties alone they use chunk chicken instead of ground chicken, and it is kickin.
  • As a kid back in the '70's I believe I paid fifty cents for a Christie's beef patty as well as a slice of Antonio's pizza. Then Reagan took office in '81 and the trickle down theory shot everything too hell.
