Cobblers and Tailors — Brooklynian

Cobblers and Tailors

I need to find a good shoe repair shop and a good tailor/alterations place in Fort Greene. If anyone has a recommendation--especially for doing alterations to women's clothing and high heels--I would very much appreciate it. I work in Brooklyn Heights, so that would also be manageable if people could recommend something there.

Thanks!

  • There's a cobbler on Myrtle btwn Carlton and Adelphi (couple of doors down from Little Louie's. He's resoled our shoes cheap and good.

I'm not sure, but I think one of the dry cleaners on the next block or 2nd block (Adelphi-Clermont/Clermont-Vanderbilt) does alteratioins.
  • There's a shoe repair place on Dekalb and Ashland. I would say the work he does is "ok", not necessarily great. But it'll suffice in a pinch. Most of the dry cleaners offer tailoring, but I'd again say if you really need high quality work you may have to go elsewhere.
  • For a decent tailor, try Bridge Street cleaners. Its halfway between home and work. Bridge between Fulton and Willoughby.
  • Subject: Different Cleaners are decent

I take all my tailoring to Different Cleaners on Fulton -- they do a decent job and they're incredibly nice. Closed Sundays though, and Saturdays there can get crazy...

As an added benefit, Jodie is a fantastic source for neighborhood gossip. :D

I have used him too. I was quite satisfied. He put rubber heels put on my boots while I waited. I was on my way to work.
  • Just a note to say that I went to the shoe repair place on Myrtle between Carlton and Adelphi and was very pleased with my service. He reheeled three pairs of high heels for me in an hour for $18, which seemed reasonable, and he did a good job. Thanks for the recommendations!
