Maspeth Ave Williamsburg

Just wondering what people's thoughts were on maspeth ave in Williamsburg (near the 3rd stop on the L in bkln). I was considering buying an apt in that area, but there is that hopsital which is now a shelter and some low income housing projects near there and a good bit of industry at the end of the road.

Any thoughts/advice would be great.

first of all, go spend some time out there. walk around. weekends, weeknights. see how you feel about it. don't go with the broker. go by yourself.

There's a real tight community around that area, especially right below maspeth, the triangles on olive etc., and then as you go west over towards what's generally referred to as "italian williamsburg." but that's community, not hipsters or yuppies. do you want to integrate with different kinds of people or do you just want to live with people just like you? there are schools that have a good rep and have been there a long time. that said, a lot of those people are leaving because they can get a really good price for their house or property and what the character of the neighborhood will become is up for grabs.

that's really your issue, not public housing projects.

i mean look at that block. the south side of the street is entirely new construction. the north side of the street is recent construction - fedders buildings, as they call them. you have the park and then you have some older modern construction, two/three family houses. the closest grocery store is the associated on graham - actually i think there's another associated nearer to the projects. you don't have a lot of restaurants or other amenities. and the industry is always going to be there. check that. don't think that area will suddenly gentrify now or even in the next 5-10 years. you're near the e. williamsburg industrial zone and businesses get tax breaks to do business in that area. so it's not suddenly going to become paradise overnight.

i am not sure i would buy there because i think the neighborhood is lacking. i would rather buy in bushwick.

How are the prices in that area? I am looking for a place that is far from hipsters! Being Italian, I really like the Graham area.
