The Historic Chapel @ Green-Wood Cemetery

he Green-Wood Historic Fund proudly presents Robert C. Williams, author of the just-published and widely praised Horace Greeley: Champion of American Freedom.

This book is the first comprehensive biography of Horace Greeley to
be published in the last half century. It examines the many facets of Horace Greeley, one of the giants of 19th-century America. Gadfly and opinion-maker, Greeley was a controversial figure who championed diverse and often unpopular causes. Running against Ulysses S. Grant for president in 1872, Greeley was soundly beaten and died just a few weeks later.

The author’s presentation will be followed by a walk, led by
Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman and author Robert C. Williams,
to Horace Greeley’s grave.
