in search of scooter parking
I live on Dean St near Carlton Ave. I'm looking for a place to chain up my motorscooter. I don't use it too often but would need to access it on weekends. If you have an accessible yard or some extra space in your garage, let's see what we can work out. Send me a private message via this group.
Thanks,
Cynthia

what sort of scooter? -
rhodamine,
no leads yet to report.
as for scooters, my current ride is a vespa. what are you acquiring? as you probably know, parking on the sidewalk will net you a $115 ticket, so watch out for that.

I ride a motorcycle and sidewalk park it all the time in the city and brooklyn, I really have only gotten a couple of 45 dollar tickets a few years ago for parking on the sidewalk. The general feeling I have is that as long as you arent blocking a path or leaving it in a dangerous place (where a kid could knock it over on themselves) the police will respect teh fact that you have to be able to lock it up, becuase we all know (cops included) that they wont do shiznit if it gets stolen. Overnight I leave it at the lot on underhill and at work I leave it in a lot because where I currently work there are no motorhead spots, but in general when going into the city or at other jobs I've never had a problem and a couple of tickets (maybe 2 in 4 years by some jerkoff PO) were much cheaper than having it stolen.

on my block (park pl) there are a couple of mopeds locked up regul;arly on the sidewalk and I have never seen them ticketed. -
captain M, you're lucky the cops don't ticket on your block. i parked on pacific st for two years without incident, but in the last 8 months or so, i've been hit with numerous tickets, including tickets for sidewalk parking (the fine increased last year to $115) and one for having my plate covered by a motorcycle cover (i think that one was $70). just yesterday i got a $115 for parking on a sidewalk in downtown manhattan near my job.
as many of my scooterist friends can tell you, there has been a general crackdown in the city lately for parking on sidewalks. (yes, we are sure to keep out of the way of pedestrians, doorways, etc.) at the same time, the city has torn down the motorcyle lot at battery park, and has been towing bikes from other popular mc parking locations such as the triangle on lafayette near spring st. -

That blows, I dont see how discouraging alternate modes of transportation helps the city any, its totally ass backwards. I guess the crackdown hasnt hit pk place or me yet.

Now that you mention it though, I have never been pulled over and gotten a ticket in the city except for twice on canal right by the bridge in the last year by the same short (5;5"), bald (failed implants exposed), pasty white, stocky, napoleonic cop for crap reasons. Gave me a ticket last time for spittiing lanes at a red light through stopped traffic, totally defeating the point of riding a m-bike. On top of it all he told me to just pay it as it wouldnt show on my record, which turned out to be a complete lie. It sucks but I guess times are changing. -
rumour has it you have to overpay, and not cash the refund check they send you... but that's only what i've heard...
as for vespa parking...we have ours parked in front of our building in crown heights. locked up to the fence. don't know why it hasn't been stolen yet, but the license plate was. i think its because it is known as the motor scooter equivalent of the p.o.s. hooptie that doesn't run, yet remains parked in the front yard. yes, we are THAT white trash. we should just face facts and put it on blocks or something. -
so my vespa arrives this weekend! any new leads on the parking issue?

Are you sure you don't live in my building?
