window screens — Brooklynian

window screens

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
this is a pretty random question, but i figured if anywhere this message board might be a good place to get an answer. so the apartment i'm living in has no screens on the windows. first off, should my landlord be the person taking care of that? i feel like he is going to probably not take care of it though, so i'm wondering where would i go to get screens installed? anyone had to do this? how much should i expect to pay for this service? thanks in advance...

  • This one of those "how much do you have to spend" questions.

At the cheapest you can get a roll of screen and attach it to the outer fram of the window

At the most expensive you can get window frames installed behind the current frame, the new one having screens.

I dont think the landlord is required to do anything
    Sorry
  • Yeah, we don't have screens either. It's not required, so...I was toying with the idea of getting a roll of screen, but never ended up doing it. We have a fan in the one window that's open, so not many bugs try anything (successfully) through there anyway.
  • Go to Pintchik and get some of those adjustable-size screen inserts. Less hassle than dealing with a roll of screen. Maybe $10 a window? I've seen them go at stoop sales for $1-$2.
  • Try the hardware store on Flatbush bet St. Marks and 6th Avenues (Across from the street clock on the green triangle) The guys are great and can do that sort of stuff on the spot while you wait
  • I also recommend Flatbush Hardware! They're quick, friendly and affordable.
