Another way to get results on crime. — Brooklynian

Another way to get results on crime.

Since Bloomberg is such a data freak, I recommend that, in addition to other methods, we start using the complaint form on the nyc.gov site:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailnypd.html

I used the nyc.gov site twice for the pothole/caved-in sewer grate on my corner (the second time was because the DOT did such a shit job the first time that the sewer grate fell in again), and got quick action both times. The form linked above sends a message to the police commissioner's office, and your message can be precinct-specific. It's also a piece of bureaucracy that doesn't stop at the precinct level. If more people use the form, more better.

  • Cool! Useful for those of us who are chained to a desk in Manhattan all day--I can't be the only one.
  • no, you're not the only one stuck in manhattan most of the day (and sometimes into the night by stupid projects). javascript:emoticon(':(')
    Sad
    I'll certainly use this in the future when I have complaints about stuff I see. Thanks for sharing it!
  • {Our most frequent guest has asked in the past why we dick around on this website all day instead of going out and doing things in the neighborhood. Well, my non-sleeping meatspace hours in ProHo are limited...at least this way we can goof off with our neighbors, even if only virtually. Desk monkeys unite!}

    I don't have any crimes to report, but I think I'll use that to ask why our meeting got cancelled...
  • Yes! Great idea. Please ask.
  • DH-

    Maybe you could put a link to the complaint form on the main page next to the 77th precinct link.
