Kitten Food

I recently got a new kitten who came with a 10lb bag of Science Diet Original Kitten Food. My cats eat Nutro so I have no need for it, and I hate throwing things away. Anyone interested?

I just got an adult cat. Is it ok to give kitten food to an adult cat? What's the difference? Sorry, but I'm totally ignorant about this.
If it's ok to feed this stuff to my cat, then I'm definitely interested.
  • Where'd you get your kitten? I'm in the market for one in the near future. The kitty nazis at petco in Union Square effectively scared me away, so I'll probably hit up the ASPCA.
  • Our kitten might eat it. She's not really been into whatever we have been feeding her...which might be Nutro, come to think of it.
  • Carnivore, I think that kitten food is good for up to one year. If you have an older cat it might not be so good for him/her. You and Emily can fight it out I guess. Don't worry though, they'll be a consolation prize so no feline goes home hungry. You can PM or email (hotmail).

I found him on Craigs List 2 weeks ago on the "Free List" (Check it out). He was free, but after tests, shots and meds he cost me $250 (Ouch). The Vet on PPW between 5th and 6th is what we used. They didn't rip me off, it was just a lot of little things. Most of these cats on the site are being given away due to unforseen circumstances though, so usually they are already tested and healthy I think.

P.S. I hate to brag, but isn't my cat's uncanny semblance to The King (curled lip) impressive?

The neighborhood vets all give away free cats and kittens. They are strays taken in by their staff or dropped off by their doors. I got mine at Animal Kind. My cat's vet on Prospect Park West and 5th (I think) sometimes gets kittens....

    Good Luck!
  • I am even at this moment listening to an answering machine message from my husband's cousin saying that they have kittens in their backyard. Let me know if you're interested in getting her contact info.
  • No personal experience with them, but Hope Veterinary Clinic @ 390 Atlantic Avenue (Between Bond & Hoyt; 718-852-4219) has a constantly rotating selection of cats and kittens. In fact they had an amazing batch of cute tuxedo/black kittens. Most of them are taken, but I know three are left.
  • You can also donate food to many animal rescue orgs, such as Slope Street Cats. (They're probably a good source for kittens for adoption, too.)

As long as there's taurine in it you can feed it to your kitty and it will be fine.

But keep in mind that adult kitty's metabolism is different, and if you feed her the extra-calorific kitten chow she may blimp out!

Yeah I don't think it's good to do long term but one bag shouldn't hurt. But what do I know, I may have just killed carnivore's cat.

Surely a vegetarian can't be so callous about killing an animal! Especially a cute furry one.
