Tavern on Nostrand — Brooklynian

Tavern on Nostrand

Hi -
Just got back from Tavern on Nostrand (Nostrand between President and Eastern Parkway) where we had a drink and listened to some great jazz. Haven't read anything about this place on this msg board so I thought I'd let you all know that it's well worth a visit. A meny (for take out as well) that looks great with entrees ranging from $9.95 to $20.95; anything from a burger to pan seared red snapper and trout. Haven't tried the food yet but I'm very curious to do so.
The owner, David, is a really great guy who clearly loves his place - which he should; it looks phenomenal and it's just the right size with a few tables and the bar + the area by the door for the live jazz bands. There's live jazz every Saturday night, starting at 7:pm.

Anyway, just thought I should pass on the news of this sweet spot.

  • Is that place right next to the building that partially collapsed, the one with the blue construction scaffold? If so, I haven't been in there yet but I've dealt with the owner several times and he seems like a pretty nice guy. He's a hardworker and he did all the renovations himself. I wish him luck.
  • No, that's Secrets which is Nostrand between Prospect and Park. Tavern on Nostrand is Nostrand and Union, right next to the MTA substation.
  • Gotcha, wasn't thinking on that side of Eastern.
  • since you mention it, what's the story with Secrets? I remember a thread about it when it was just opening but don't remember hearing any details about it since. Any reports on the place?
  • No, it never opened. I was in the day before the parade and the owner said they would be open in a couple of weeks. They served food for the jouvet, but haven't seen any activity recently. The place appeared to be close to complete then.

I wonder if the problems with the building next door have something to do with the delay.
