Howdy all!

I've been lurking here for a month or so and am finally moving into the area. (near Classon) I guess I've got two questions =]

1) Am I even in Prospect Heights? ::flails:: Or am I in Crown Heights? I read one post which said something like "its different west of washington than east of franklin", but that says nothing about what seems to be the no-man's land between the two! What neighborhood am I in?! Is my area so bad that no one wants to claim us? I feel so alone! ::dramatic sniffle::

2) Do you all do a monthly gathering at a bar or restaurant or anything? Or is this mostly interweb / internets only?

And just to insert myself into the demographic / gentry warfare that Brooklyn (or maybe just these boards?) seems to undergo every so often, I'll include the following: I'm 23, coming from Staten Island where I lived almost all of my life, a recent college grad from RIT, working from home as a computer programmer for some decent-sized company with no office in NYC.

I don't know if that makes me the enemy to some of you, but if it does... ... ... I got nothin =/

Anyway, Howdy!

Welcome to the boards and the neighborhood, Rob!

    You live in Crown Heights.
  • and we do periodically meet up - lots of folk in your part of the 'hood. there's a park slope meetup in a few weeks, but I'm considering doing a "wait what - who else is around for t'giving" meetup at soda on thursday night.
  • Welcome to the neighborhood.

I'd say you live in Prospect Heights, but there is always disagreement on where the border is. Hell, who cares? Have a beer and settle in for the fun.
  • The Encyclopedia of the City of New York (the definitive reference for all things NYC) says the border is Washington Ave.
  • i always thought the border was classon...

A common misconception that the real estate brokers encourage.
  • yes, the border (from all that I've gathered, since I moved here) is definitely Washington. And if you ask me, you can clearly see the border as you walk from say Vanderbuilt to Classon. But I live on Classon, and I love it here -- but I know your confusion about noman's land!! Haha I had the same trouble, people said washington+ was prospect heights, but franklin (or bedford)+ was crown heights. And yes, I was told in ads that where I am was prospect heights, heh.

but anyway, you're in crown heights, right next to prospect heights and not far from park slope and ft. greene and the park - I love it, we've got everything. welcome to the neighborhood!
