i went in there for the first time sunday. its actually better than the Duane reed on flatbush and 7th ave. this is after i stopped in at Heights coffee, damn that place was packed, nothing but laptops.

im not sure what these people do on there laptops all day?
i guess there writing something or maybe doing homework?

King's Pharmacy is my pharmacy of choice in the area. They have one other branch, on Clarkson Ave across the street from Kings County Hospital and next to Downstate.

i never got the whole laptop in the coffe shop thing. im a graphic designer by trade and am pretty much chained to my desktop at home.

nothing beats pushing around pixels in 175 mb photoshop file.

I agree. They're the best around for actual presrciptions. They've been able to fill "difficult" presciptions for me. Plus I just hate Duane Reade in general because their staff people in the Manhattan stores are so uniformly surly. The staff at the one here don't actually seem as bad. But I strongly endorse the Kings before Duance Reade strategy of drug store shopping.

I endured two separate attempts at a routine fill at King's -- long waits and surly service. I remember thinking at least the woman behind the counter wasn't actually yelling at me, like she had been to other people.

Awful, awful place.

Very helpful at Kings. They really helped me out when there was a hiccup in my new insurance. Good people.

Just want to second the votes for Kings...good lord that Duane Reade is TERRIBLE.

As much as I wouldn't DREAM of shopping at Duane Reade or any other chain in the neighborhood, I did have a really bad experience at King's lately. I've been going to King's exclusively since I moved to the neighborhood in 1997. A few weeks ago I had a prescription to fill that was going to cost a $50 co-pay because I have crappy insurance; however, my doctor had given me a manufacturer's coupon for $20 off. When I went to pick up the prescription the woman behind the counter told me I couldn't use the coupon and my insurance (without insurance it was in the $100 range). I said that was not true, that the coupon didn't stipulate that. After a lot of back and forth, she basically told me she was too busy to deal with the coupon right then. So I went and got the manager who said they'd take care of it right away. About 45 minutes later I was able to walk out with my $30 prescription and a lot of anger.

I really do not give chain stores my money which is the only reason I didn't storm out of King's in the midst of this. But you would think with major competition right across the street they'd care a little more about long-term customers. All I can hope is that another independent pharmacist moves into the spot where Christie's was...

^ This is analogous to my experience. The rudeness, the wait, the arguing. I thought about bringing it up with the manager, but after watching how the pharmacist treated other people I decided he either has no clue or knows but doesn't care, and that was enough for me to not go there anymore.

One time rudeness I can interpret as people working hard having a bad day. But in my experience going there the rudeness was more common than not, so I stopped.

Actually, compared with the norm for customer service in NYC, i think the Key Foods employees are practically little rays of sunshine. (The staff at Target is the lowest of the low.) If there's one thing i miss about the midwest, its the higher standard at customer service jobs. It's a shame how many folks in this town bring no pride to their job whatsoever. [-X
