Clearly your heart is telling you to stay on Park Pl. Otherwise you would have chosen the Gowanus or BoCoCa forum.
And if you were thinking of wasting some of your precious time in New York away from Brooklyn, the Q at Park&Carlton will get you to midtown much faster than the F at Smith&Carroll. -
Thanks for that bit of travel info... really I'm not sure at all about the hotels i'm totally torn - i'd be swayed with better restaurants, bars etc but they are not even that far away are they? :?

It's sort of a pain to get from Prospect Heights to Carroll Gardens and back so I think you have to choose one place or the other. I'd prefer eating in Manhattan plus the shorter "commute" to PH over eating in CG and the long-ass haul on the F to Manhattan. There are some really good restaurants there but in more of a "I don't feel like cooking this Tuesday" way than a "eat out in a foreign land" way.
Except The Grocery, that's worth the shlep! -
when you say "long haul" how long are we talking?

I'd stay on Park Place. You have a few restaurants such as The Garden Cafe, Allesio and its sister pizzeria across the street, Castillo De Juaga, Flatbush Farm, Moonies, Taro Sushi, Junior's (breakfast, ice cream & cheesecake only), The Usual, Tom's Diner. a whole slew of West Indian and Jamaican eateries a block or two from you. Plus, you're near two subway lines, the IRT, which makes local stops in Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan and then turns express for the rest, and the Q train which is probably the quickest train to and from Manhattan ( stopping in Chinatown, Union Square, Herald & Times Square and Rockefeller Center, via express line) and to parts of Brooklyn such as Kensington, Midwood and Coney Island. The F train just plain sucks. I used to take it to high school. Then again, I guess Carroll Gardens has the Grocery.

Junior's is a lot more than a block or two from there! But all the other places you named are way better than the over-rated Junior's anyway (although it might be worth it for a visitor just for the experience).

You'll also be fairly close to the 5th Ave for eating options if you stay on Park. It's a little walk but not too bad. Plus if you combine it with some shopping you'll be out that way anyway. 5th ave has a lot more going on than smith st does, the restaurants/bars/cafes are better quality and there are lots more boutique type places to get some X-mas shopping done. Not that smith st is dead or anything but I think 5th is better.

Nah, I can walk to Junior's in ten minutes. Or take the Q two stops to DeKalb. And I did say just for breakfast and the cheesecake. Lunch and afterwards, you're counting the crop marks on the meat. -

I'd say stay with boutiques on 7th Ave. Food on Flatbush, Vanderbilt, Washington and 5th Ave. -
I would stay on Park Place--
First there are more subway options to go to manhattan (Q,B,2,3)
Second, beautiful Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza, and the Brooklyn Musuem are right nearby which are all must-sees!
Third, dozens of great boutiques and restaurants are on 7th ave and 5th ave, just across Flatbush Avenue. It's a very short walk from the B&B

Park Place will be nice. Definitely go to the museum and check out 7th and 5th ave. Both are good shopping areas and most of all, the FOOD! Yum!
Do your research because there are many delicious places to eat and not enough time for such a short visit, especially if you will be in Manhattan too. I'm sure many on this board can provide their favorites or do a search. As for my advice, if you love pizza get it in Brooklyn.
I'm curious to hear how this visit will turn out. Let us know if your partner approves after it's all said and done. -
Anyone have the lowdown on this B&B on Park Place, price, quality etc?
Howdy, Stranger!
