  • This thread has gotten ridiculous (Thought I'd say that in case you didnt notice) - It is simply unproveable that PS parents are a "breed apart" and
yet everyone is entitled to their opinion.
  • Can we get back to the fact that BigBubba is an imposter. I invented the name BigBubba to distinguish myself in several on-line forums. I have worked hard to develop my reputation and I will not let this trolling imposter ruin my hard work.

Also, just for the record, I think that the childless people of Park Slope are a breed apart and are some of the most inconsiderate people in the city (and that is saying a lot).

How about you just move on to other things since no one can prove either way who anyone is and for the most part, with the exception of you, no one really cares. It's conceivable that someone can inadvertently choose the same name (since it's not exactly esoteric). You certainly do not have a trademark on it. On top of this, Your claims carry zero weight. You're saying you can prove beyond doubt that this is the same person trashing you elsewhere, yet I know for a fact that you have no access to identifiers like IP addresses, I do. On this note, I feel absolutely no reason to believe you and your claims. You're just some guy jumping on and making all these accusations. I don't know who you are, whether you're who you say you are, or why it even matters. You freaking out about this sorely temps me to go start guest posting elsewhere as "BigBubba", just to prove a point, but it's a waste of my time as is yours in pursuing this pointless rant of yours.
  • Ahem, the best way to "protect" your name is to register it.

Sorry Dave, but you've been suckered by the troll. I am not making a big deal out of it, so get off my case. The troll is posting as multiple personalities. I've actually stopped using the BigBubba name on all forums except for Craigslist, where it is registered. I'm not going to run around registering it everywhere because frankly, I just don't care all that much. So, you guys can have it. It was a mistake to even bring it up.

Uh... yeah... you go girl! :|
  • I agree with the sentiment of those who feel that they can't enjoy a meal or cup of coffee without the ruckus of children. Sadly, this problem now extends to bars. I used to think that a bar was a safe refuge from howling kids, but not any more. Soda and the Gate certainly come to mind. The Gate is disturbing, as the kids run around with all of the pint glasses atop those wobbly tables on the patio. IMO, bars are for adults, not children. And don't even get me started on the restaurant thing. It amazes me just how late people will keep their children up in order to take their kids out to eat. What irks me is when the kids run around and the parents just sit there as if nothing is wrong.

What if the bar has a bottle warmer behind the counter?
  • I want more stroller pushing moms in ProHo, now - so they can catch those losers not picking up after their dogs red handed!

Move those suv sized strollers to our neighborhood - the streets would be cleaner!!!
  • Subject: Really! Entitled people - they should all get a life!

Yeah, I hate entitled PS parents with babies clogging 7th Avenue.

And, I hate entitled scenesters clogging Williamsburg and the LES.

And, I hate entitled office workers clogging Wall Street and Midtown.

And, I hate entitled commuters clogging subways, buses, Penn Station and Grand Central.

And, I hate entitled gay people clogging Chelsea.

And, I hate entitled ill people clogging hospitals.

And, I hate entitled sports fans clogging Yankee Stadium, Shea and MSG.

And, I hate entitled drinkers clogging bars.

And, I hate entitled smokers clogging sidewalks.

And, I hate entitled hungry people clogging restaurants.

And, I hate entitled art lovers clogging MOMA, The Whitney and the Met.

Everyone's gotta live and be somewhere. If you don't like babies, people, crowds, demographics, tribes, cliques, etc. there's plenty of space to move back out to the Midwest where you came from.

(Now everyone get back to work at your entitled jobs.)

  • Subject: at least park slope has big sidewalks

I think kids are fine and all. But buying a double-wide stroller is a nincompoop move for a parent in NYC. Some of those strollers barely fit on the sidewalk. Just like it's rude to walk three abreast in a sidewalk and never let anyone pass, it's rude to ram your double-wide stroller down the sidewalk and force very nice, generally friendly people into the gutter so you can pass. If you must have one of these monstrosities, then be courteous and move to the side when people approach you on the sidewalk.

And how is one meant to transport two children under 3/4 yrs of age? Would you rather the children run about the sidewalks, underfoot?

That being said, I admire a person who sees the average (sans stroller, of course) pedestrian as "very nice" and "generally friendly." Ah, to be so philanthropic! Bravo!
  • The above? Me.

I think this is the basic issue at heart here. A stroller is not a political tool but a pragmatic necessity for most of us. It's just a fact of life that parents of very small children need equipment in order to get from point a to point b. The real point of contention here is whether those with strollers use them as weapons or not. I try to be as respectful of those around me when I have the stroller as when I don't. It's a matter of attitude, and I can understand the anti-stroller people getting upset with those parents who don't seem to be aware of anyone else in their vicinity (live bad drivers). I just ask that you not prejudge us. Hard to believe, but we're not all alike.

Well let's see... a basic Google search yields results that tell me, not even a parent, that you don't NEED a double-wide monstrosity. To wit:

    Example 1

    Example 2

    Example 3

Clearly there are alternatives. I think people are just choosing the SUVs over the compacts for other reasons.

Edited your post because the long links were messing up the page layout. --EmilyM
  • You should try maneuvering one of those long double strollers. You have no control over the front of it from the back, which is esp. frustrating when you are pushing around 40 or 50 pounds or more. I once babysat for twins and I found it impossible to push that thing.
  • This is getting daft and dafter....

The absurd impracticality of Stencil's alternatives (for so many dull reasons in addition to the above-mentioned) bespeaks his/her non-parent status.

Thankyou for the suggestion-as-criticism. There's a reason why one rarely sees those strollers in a walking town such as ours, and it has nothing to do with an overarching SUV-mentality.
  • germfree! wrote: ...and it has nothing to do with an overarching SUV-mentality.
    No, it does!

    First you get the stroller.
    Then you get the SUV.
    Then you get the power.
    Then you get the women!!!

    Wait, I mixed that up.

  • Well, I don't know about that, but phase three is PROFIT.
  • Subject: what happened to this thread

What happened ? I was hoping we could find some common ground between stroller haters and those who use strollers but somehow the thread degenerated into some stupid debate over some unoriginal name. uggghh. Now I want to ram a stroller myself. I think I am too old for this forum-it sounds like a bunch of teenagers.
  • Don't give up yet! I think Stencil is off test-driving all the fab double strollers he/she recommended. Then there'll be an extensive appraisal and some cutting retorts. Boy oh boy, will he/she ever show us!
    Rotten Breeders!
  • Geez, people. It's this attack mode that I think hurts your image as parents. No, I don't have kids, and if that double-wide SUV stroller is easier to control, then so be it. I suppose I don't understand why they're necessary and was hoping there were alternatives.

    Guess I was wrong.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled defensiveness and adolescence.
  • Subject: Dualism First Hand

Before I was a parent I lived in the Slope and I swore I would not become a mother who acted like she was the 1st one ever to have a baby. Mothers do act like they OWN the sidewalks, and you should let them go first no matter what. When I don't have my kids, I let them think I'm just another single person. Deal with it. Hey, I have kids too, and I never expected special treatment unless it involved them crying etc...I have ALWAYS been aware of sidewalk space. AND, I used a SLING. GUess what-babies LOVE slings--and they don't take up any room! Upon the birth of my 2nd- we used a single stroller and a sling. So no, PSPs and NYCPs, I will not get out of your way. We must all get along...so stop making the rest of us mothers look bad!! I HATE YOUR SUV AND BUGABOOS!!

Oh yes, insult the whole board--that's classic. To complete the look, be sure to post a long manifesto on why you're never coming back, and then come back again and again to reply to it.

Sorry. It was meant to be "funny/attack" mode. My bearings must be off. You must admit, however, that double strollers are better than hummers....I mean Hummers.

I wish there were alternatives. I don't know anyone who wants to push a double stroller down the street. The front and back ones don't work (those are for people in the suburbs who stroll in shopping malls), a sling works great when you have a young baby but when you have twins or two children under three each weighing 30-45 pounds, you are stuck with a double stroller with bicycle wheels. I would never drive an SUV and I do feel bad taking up more than my share of the sidewalk and try to get my kids to walk as much as possible.

I think the parents are in attack mode because we feel our children are being attacked by lumping all parents/children into one group.
